What to put on top?
I'm about to move forward with seeding. Are there any recommendations for what to put over the seeds, if anything? I've had bad experience with straw, mostly that it didn't fully decompose and left things very patchy. Any good products out there?

I would recommend peat moss. Spreading it is dusty work but it works itself into the soil, and it has no weed seeds to worry about.

1/8" - 1/4" peat moss.

See if you can rent a peat moss roller from home depot. It made the job easy. It takes a lot of peat moss and it isn't cheap. It IS worth every penny!

Compost from the county compost facility. $22 loaded in my truck for what has to be 2.5 yards.

I have heard of a few people on here blaming their POA and POA-T infestations on composite that was brought in. Its probably impossible to say where the culprits come from, but I have always be Leary of bringing compost.
If you find a compost spreader; they are great, I usually figure ~10cft peat moss per 1,000sf the last few times I used mine. They use a lot of peat moss.

Re: What to put on top?
I think that's legitimate. In my case before I used it as a top dressing, I used it in a big bed in the back where I worked 3 yards or so into the top 6-8 inches of my crappy soil. And I just left it. No plants or mulch in that area yet. The only weeds that came up were the same weeds I had when it was just bare soil.northeastlawn wrote: ↑August 18th, 2018, 7:04 pmI have heard of a few people on here blaming their POA and POA-T infestations on composite that was brought in. But I dont doubt that you run the risk of bringing in nasty weed seeds.
