What should my fertilizing plan be going forward? My test shows me deficient in P and K and I have been using a balanced fertilizer to bring that up. Last app was 21 days ago. I have urea and figured it was time to transition to that. But what quantity and on what schedule? I expect the weather here to become cooler (50/60s during the day) with frequent rain.

You could switch over to the Fall Nitrogen Regimens, assuming that you know when your average first frost date is, and when you last applied the balanced fertilizer. If it's been 3-4 weeks since your last fertilization you can make the switch. Read the first posting of the Fall Nitrogen Regimens for all you'll need about app rates, etc.

Hey on a tangent, I love your house color and the contrast between the columns on your porch and the rest of the house!

Thanks. We cheated a little with that. Our neighbors in our last house had this combination and we liked it so much we just copied.

This is looking great, I seeded the same blend as yours 19 days ago and it's already over an inch with multiple blades. Mine also germinated on Day 6. Did you already mow once or this is full 2-month growth? At what stage you were able to walk over the lawn?

" Did you already mow once or this is full 2-month growth? At what stage you were able to walk over the lawn?"

The lawn has been mowed several times. I didn't record when my first mow was but it was maybe a month after germination? It's been fertilized twice, had foliar iron applied once and been subject to some wbg. Plus my dog's usual activities. At this point we walk on it as it it were mature. The only thing that hurts it is if my dog gets excited and starts running back and forth - the roots are shallow and the soil moist so her claws dig it up a little.

Naturally you should stay off it as long as possible but I dont think tip toeing around every once in a while does much damage.

There are a few areas that have struggled. Right in the center of the front yard is an area that's maybe 10' by 10. Growth there is stunted and thin. I think it got too much water in the early days. In addition, areas that had bare soil rather than grass stubble are also behind. To help it along I reseeded those areas but they are still behind. But it's hard to see from the street - hence the pic from the street!

Do I need to be spraying serenade as a preventative at this point in the year?

I am at Day 20 (seed)/14 (germination) so it's still quite possible that in a couple of weeks my grass will reach 3 inches and ready for the first cut. I am stocked up with Scotts Green max (iron) lawn food and Scotts winter guard lawn food but I am not sure if so close to winter I should add any iron or fertilizer. Although, I am still at least a month away from the first frost. As far as weeds, I used Scotts new grass plus weed preventer which bleached any broadleaf weeds and onion bulbs that germinated so far. But having said that I start to see new tiny broadleaf weeds that aren't bleached and start to show up in the last couple of days. Would you and other experts recommend to spray weed b gone in a week to control newly germinating weeds?

I am not walking on the lawn yet as grass seems very fragile but fall leaves started to cover the ground so I need to at least start collecting leaves soon so that new grass continues to get both sunlight and water.

I do have lots of patches where germination is late and sparse, I am not sure if I have enough time left before winter to reseed those areas. Being KBG I am hoping it will fill in by itself in Spring. To begin with, I cut down over 3 dozen trees mostly very tall oaks that were shadowing my house and the lawn so there was a moss lawn all around. Then I let ground fallow over a year/monthly glyphosate applications while I was installing the sprinkler system. So I started seeding on a bare soil which seemed mostly sandy on top due to rainfall caused erosion as there was nothing to hold soil for more than a year.

I think the weed b gone bottle may say its safe after 3 mows? Not sure but it tells u.

I pulled a lot of leaves. I find it therapeutic.

Seed down was Aug 15th. Last fert was 22 days ago. I mowed yesterday and growth has definitely slowed but it's still going. According to my calendar (I know) next week is the approx stop of top growth. Should I apply urea now (I have some rust like fungus in spots) or should I wait until the final winterizer app?

If it is still growing and you are in The Pause, adding Nitrogen will only compound your problem - new forced growth will not harden and will be subject to possible Winter Kill.

Some pictures of last year's partial reno.

First picture shows my PR on the left and KBG on the right. The PR does NOT like our winters. It was lush in the fall.

The rest of the PR will get killed off and replaced with kbg in August.

Last fall the new kbg got hit with a fungus of some sort. I applied Spectator which knocked it out.

Temperatures here are highly variable now. 72 today but night time lows in the 30s this week plus some chance of snow. Cloudy and wet is a constant.

Is it time for me to start preventative applications of serenade? Thanks

Yeah, I generally start in mid-May.

Oh, I feel for you on that one. I loved PRG when I had it, but suffered winter kill also nearly every year. Eventually I threw in the towel. And I didn't have to deal with Syracuse winters.
