What happened to this lawn? Peat Moss???

Post by flashroy » May 27th, 2020, 6:22 pm

This is my mother in law's lawn, it used to have st. Augustine, but then my father in lawn put down some peat moss. And now it looks like this. PH levels shows 6.5. There is a pond in the background and we have a lot of trees. Newbie here and don't know much about how to restore this lawn or what to grow in it afterwards. We are in south Dallas.

Here's a link to all pictures if you need.

There is no way that came from peat moss, unless it was so deep/thick that the lawn was smothered.

Or is it because of the dense shade? Still, there used to be St. Augustine here too.

How long did it take to happen? Dense shade takes a pretty long time to kill off grass.

Yeah, we're going to need chronology and more to go on before even fathoming a guess.

We had put sod down and it died out and them he put about 100 bales of peat moss on and tilled it in and replaced the sod it never really took hold i dont think we watered a huge amount and fertilized but it still died

Ah, that's a very different story than you led with. So sod died with and without peat moss. There never really was an established St. Augustine lawn.

Sorry, was trying to recollect as much as possible from my mother in law and it just dawned on me to ask her the full history. DERP. Any suggestions to move forward? The soil is very dense and almost sandlike.
