Covering a tree's roots can be a really quick way to kill the tree. You'd have to drop them several inches to do any good, which you really can't do without doing damage. Best case, you only change the pitch enough that all the runoff heads for the base of the tree and rots it. Worst case, you cover that tree base as well and rot it out immediately. :-)

If you can ignore the roots, please do so. I might also consider extending the mulched bed to include the roots (I can't see how far they extend to see if that's realistic).

I got my soil test results today.

P and K are below optimal at 7 and 107 ppm respectively. So I’m thinking starter is going to be needed, for the foreseeable future, for the P deficiency. For the K deficiency I am planning on using some potash (KCl). The thought is that doing both in tandem will get my levels to optimal faster as opposed to applying regular apps of starter for years before K catches P. What I am struggling with is the application rate for the potash. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? Any insight you could share?

Also wondering when I should start applying? I was thinking potash down now, go ahead with kill schedule, and starter at seed down along with tenacity. I am planning on using Scott’s starter just because of availability. 24-25-4 I think it is.

Well I didn’t post the results because I used the MSU extension mail-in test as opposed to the Logan test.

Here is a screenshot of the results.
