What grasses are in there? Is that the SS5000 "Sunny Mixture" with KBG, FF, and PRG?

This is in fact (what is now) 28 day old grass in the reno area.

Is is the SS5000 Sunny Mixture...PRG, KBG and Radar Chewings Fescue. The blend is a little different compared to last years but it still has Midnight KBG which I'm a huge fan of.

Looking good, and following the pattern of expectations for a lawn with a fairly high component of PRG - it can look fairly mature at 30 days. The trick with PRG is keeping it well-irrigated in the Summer, and avoiding winter losses after a tough Winter. It's a pretty grass, but it has its challenges at the extremes of the seasons.

Thanks Andy. I do like the PRG...it germinated quickly and does have a good appearance. Thanks for the notes on irrigation.

There’s also 3 different blends of KBG, with midnight being my favorite. I’m anxious to see how this all looks next Spring around Memorial Day. But I’m not wishing time away

I am. A long time ago, my mama threatened to slap me into next year.

I recently asked her to please do that, because so far, 2020 rots. If one good shot could land me in, say, April of 2021, that'd be great.

Honestly after reading their thread I went out this afternoon and found some shabby spots. I mowed on Sunday, but some areas were already 4-5” tall.

My HOC is 2” and I dumped around 8-10 bags of clippings. They weren’t completely full, I was just taking my time enjoying the nice day and stopping every now and then.

My watering has been cut back dramatically, mainly because we’ve been getting rain. Temps have been running cooler, around 60.

Looks good.....what type of mower and not a reel mower... did u notice any grass, root and all, in the bags?

Thanks. I have a 21” Honda Twin blade mower. I didn’t notice any grass with roots. It was all grass tips and loose straw in the bag. I sharpened the blades and thoroughly cleaned the deck Sunday. I try to mow past the reno edge and then turn the mower on non-reno area. It’s a lot of push mowing on that larger area, but I don’t mind.

Thanks a lot! So this weekend has been pretty low key until about 1.5 hours ago. I ran the sprinklers once starting at noon yesterday.

Today I’ve been glued to weather forecasts as we were to get predicted rain. Originally I had planned on dropping Urea on the reno and additional Urea on my existing lawn as part of the aggressive fall nitrogen plan, right at 4:30.

Around 3:45, my wife and I had our daughters out playing in the back. I had my spreader and Urea idling off to the side waiting. The wind begin to whip pretty good and it got really chilly. My wife took the girls in and I immediately started dropping the Urea down. It then began to rain. I ended up accomplishing everything I wanted to, minus not getting an application down on the front and side portion of turf I’ve already established. At one point towards the end I was almost jogging getting the application down.

The reno was my main concern and it’s been raining for about an hour and it’s now starting to taper off. I was able to get 0.50 lbs per 1,000 sq ft applied and watered in. I’m happy with the timing, and I’m curious to see any outcomes.

I got out this afternoon and was able to mow the reno. Again I bagged the clippings. I did not water at all yesterday and only ran the sprinklers through one cycle this evening.

We’re supposed to get rain Sunday. I’ll keep an eye on it and try to time an app of Urea. I have put two down so far and am seeing some positive response. Especially after the last app. I’m seeing what I call the “interconnection” between the reno and my existing turf starting to take shape really nice in places.

Thank you! Absolutely, barring anything that prohibits me from doing so. The other day my wife and I were discussing future plans. I suggested we finish off this “L” shape section to complete the back yard entirely.

She immediately chimed in and said “no...it’ll be the front. Everyone sees the front.”

So I guess the front it is

Well folks, I’ve made it to Day 40. I was out mowing our more established areas and decided to mow the reno again just two days later after my last trim. Why? 1) I had some time so I unhooked all of my hoses and completely freed the space up so I had no obstacles. 2) I wanted to see how much growth there was after two days.

I trimmed down approximately 1/3 (maybe a little less) today. I mowed it all north-south and blended the cut in with my already established back yard. At the longest point it’s almost 200’ long swaths, but it took about 45 minutes to buzz off.

Some remnants of Hurricane Delta will hit tomorrow so I’ll try to time my Urea application once again. I watered once yesterday afternoon, and we got a light misting today. I have left the hoses unhooked and do not plan on any water until at least after tomorrow assuming Delta hits. I had pondered doing a Tenacity app today but the rain has squashed those plans.

Haha. Originally I had, but the more the back has taken shape I’ve wondered if completing it will be the best route. I go back and forth, but at least now I have my guidance

I got out late Sunday night (around 7PM) and dropped Urea on the reno @ 0.5 lbs per 1k sqft. It rained approximately 1/3” so I was pleased. I got out this afternoon and mowed again. Pics below.



Here I think the yellow/light green is compacted soil from construction. I see the darker grass and that’s over top of our septic line running out to the leach field.





No sooner than you mow, Mother Nature blows leaves onto it...
