Looks good, I have done several large scale renovations on my 5 acre yard the last 7 years or so. I had to depend on mother nature for water so it was tough. I am straight west of you a couple hundred miles or so. (Near the Indiana line on I 70). It has been very dry here the last month or so, I was going to put some Pre M down this fall but we never had a good rain forecasted to get it watered in. I wasn't able to overseed or put Pre M down this year because of the lack of rain....

Thank you very much. I recall seeing your posts about your phased approach relying on Mother Nature. I’m right there with you weather wise, it has been incredibly dry here, and I haven’t had a good rain in weeks. So much so that I haven’t been able to get any applications of fall nitrogen plan urea down. And that really has me disappointed. Each forecasted rain we get, it dodges my house. His last weekend we were right in the edge of remnants of Ian and didn’t get anything. I was really concerned going into this reno because I didn’t think I’d get the coverage out of the sprinklers but I was surprised. It’s a good thing to because if the dry weather. Fortunately my irrigation system covers about 90-95% of it. We’re on just a hair under 6 acres here, and I have about 2 full acres converted to turf thus far . The remainder is still weeds and the back half we have rented out to a farmer. Next year I’ll likely take on about a total of 1/2 acre.

Fortunately I now have all of mine done, except for some maintenance/over seeding etc. With my size of yard I just do a one time Urea treatment around Thanksgiving when the temps are right. I try to keep mine as nice as I can with the lowest cost. I usually apply a Pre M in the spring (last year it was around $70.00), then I apply Gordons acreage pro for broadleaf, once in the spring once in the fall, and then the Urea as winter sets in.

Good to know, seems like a reasonable approach with a very large area

It’s been dry here. Ian didn’t make it this far to provide any moisture. I’ve been watering 1 or 2x a day, then nothing for the next day or two and it seems to be just fine.

I got out this afternoon and buzzed everything down. I have some compact areas I’ll need to address next year (I will likely aerate those few spots)

I was off today and first thing went out and spread a knock off Milorganite (Menards e-Corganite). I spread it at bag rate, 10 bags in total.

It was a nice crisp morning to work in the yard

You can see the contrast between the new turf that’s been coddled and the old turf that’s received no water in a while:

Today I removed the hoses and sprinklers and mowed the lawn. Still haven’t had any rain so my plan is to run the sprinkler system this afternoon and tomorrow. I noticed a couple of dry areas.

As noted in previous posts I have some sparse areas that will get addressed or fill in next year. Overall I’m pretty pleased where things stand. Temps supposed to drop dramatically at the end of the week. We’ve had two small frosts over the past week.

Found this photo of the front yard. The only one I have like it, from April 2022. The bees loved it, but I did not…

I took this afternoon off and mowed the lawn. We received 1” of rain two nights ago. The trim today just took a whisker off.

Earlier this week I wrapped up all the hoses. This afternoon I mowed the whole yard as the fall leaves have been taking over. Tomorrow I will apply Disease Ex as I’m thinking I’ve got some fungal issues creeping in.

On Thursday December 15th it was warm/dry enough to go out and do one last mow. This took a whisker off the grass and mulched the last bit of leaves up. I used an old riding tractor as I already cleaned up the zero turn for the winter.

Looking forward to next spring
