cases of Tanqueray for the summer. for the winter, hmmm, maybe some Wild Turkey 101 Rye or the modestly priced Jim Beam Rye. ( beer is just a lot of carbs and farts). MuHahahahahaha! water? never touch the stuff. ah, ya know what water is good for? soak an old cotton dish towel in cold water, ring it out, fold it and throw it over your neck. a) pulls the body temp down and b) no red neck. for every hour in the yard or garden, try to get an hour on the porch. whatever you didn't do today, will still be there tomorrow. have fun.

I can't believe I missed on the booze!! but I would hold off until afterwards . I sat on the patio / porch and cheered the new seedlings on while I downed much Vodka!

I'm going to add "a thick skin". My porch is occupied by a jeering crowd that laughs at me on my hands and knees, estimating the germination rate and checking the peat moss/hydrogel situation.

I thought you could seed then spray tenacity immediately? Am I wrong in this thinking?

You can. but at least one study has shown that an app at seeding has no effect over starting apps at 4 weeks.

Why would you want to wait 4 weeks when you can nip things in the bud? I'm obviously missing something

There is nothing to nip at that point, you are counting on some possible pre-M benefits and using up one of your applications (16 oz/acre is the maximum). At 4 weeks the weeds will have germinated and as they are so young will be extremely vulnerable to Tenacity.

I forget what the bottle says ( i will have to read it again) You can spray over Seeds, but i also says wait 2 mowings or 4 weeks after germination to spray. They were saying you can spray your seed bed for some pre emergence against Poa and weeds.

Yup. if the end results are the same, why would you want an extra app at seeding?

In case you are interested, here is one article mentioning the use of Tenacity at 4 weeks after seeding.

I'm not arguing that the authors might be right, but I personally am sticking to the "Tenacity at seeding" approach, especially during a renovation. If I put down RoundUp on a Poa Triv or Nimblewill infested lawn, and it's not all killed by the RoundUp (and there are University articles saying it happens), then I'm certainly not giving the nasties a chance to get back up on their feet - I'm punching with everything I've got until dead is dead.

Now, if I were close to the 16 oz annual limit, I might reconsider that opinion...

So waiting 4 weeks to spray tenacity, if anything did come up during that time, it will be dead shortly after? is this correct?

Well, anything susceptible to Tenacity. There are certainly some weeds that aren't, I'm sure, although to tell you the truth I have yet to find one.

One very minor warning--don't get the spray in your gardens. I had no trouble with most of what was exposed (zebra grass, daylily, a few shrubs), but a few showed some whitening just from drifting spray (carpet phlox was the worst).

Maximum strength Excedrin.
Neccesity.

Zero gully washer downpours for a few weeks after seeding.
Would be nice.

To add to the list from page 1, don't forget a thatch rake! This tool alone is what's responsible for much of the back breaking work!

I have one of those. It's over 10 years old. I tried to use it. Twice. (I'm a slow learner.)
Each time I got to about the 1 hour point, saw how much I got done, saw how much was left to do, felt how sore I already was and promptly tromped up to home depot and rented the power rake. I was able to finish the job in less than 2 hours. (At least the scraping part.) It would have taken me days to do by hand. Not to mention major soreness.

If anyone is interested in a used thatch rake let me know. You pay shipping and it's yours. I plan to have the grain fed microbes take care of my thatch from now on.
