Yeah, yours is WAY ahead of mine! :good:

Mine has perked up a bit - I knew it would be a long haul with the beating mine's taken, but I'm getting antsy. I'm at 4 weeks tomorrow - I hope to get the reel mower out this weekend.
Calm down, and visit that bottle of cheap vodka hidden behind the Milorganite.

Sprouting is done (except for a few bare spots re seeded) and pouting is *over* on my mini reno. :yahoo:

Not much chatter from the 2014 Renovators on S&P. Sprout and Pout = Sit and Ponder?

lol - my experience with Bewitched is proving very different than Blueberry. I'd like to be able to sing from the hilltops that I'm out of S&P, but it just isn't roaring along like I think of. I've even cut a few times.

Some portions of the lawn are definitely out of sprout and pout, but only the more mature ones - my late germination areas (sun, extreme shade, wet) - are not.

I think that a lot of guys are throwing the kitchen sink at it. Coaxing it out.

If you had a "Strongly Agree" box, I'd check it. But the renos I'm reading this year are trending towards early fertilizer. I don't believe in coincidence.

OK, I'll admit it, some early Vitamin M went down around day 10. Not much mind you. lol

While I'm thinking about it, did anyone use Suma Grow this year?

I started weekly fertilizer apps at day 14. The lawn looks great. I followed the same approach on my last renovation with great results.

I'm on day 18. What bag rate are you putting urea down at? Not sure why people want to force the turf to do something it's not ready to do. If you could guarantee me very strong root growth vs top growth going into the winter. I'd take it.

I can't guarantee you anything. Plus, I'm not sure what you mean by bag rate.

This isn't my first rodeo, to keep with Andy's cowboy theme. (11 renovations and counting over the years)

As for my goal. That's to have a real lawn by the end of the season. If I simply did what nature wants to do. I wouldn't have a lawn at all.

Feeding grass that needs it is a pretty simple thing. I guess the proof is in the pudding. Just my opinion, of course.

Too much focus on "Day Number" in many posts above. I'm absolutely sure that TT knows what Spout-and-Pout acts like and even if he doesn't directly factor it into his planning. I've seen S&P at G+6, and I've seen it at G+20. I've had years where it didn't appear to happen. Fertilization is fine as soon as S&P is over, and if you don't know how S&P looks, err at waiting for 28 days after seeding. Trying to copy other people's dates is trying to turn this into a no-brainer formula - that doesn't go well in the long-term.

I did sumagrow a few weeks in, but not at seed down. (forgot!)

I started the high N fall regimen @ 16 days, pretty much like last year.

Looking at the grass this morning it is definitely emerging, but the late bloomers are still not there. Probably 70% out of S&P. With a warm week ahead it will surely come out by then.

Keep in mind my numbers are not what I go by it is just the historical record of when it worked that year.

Different areas are ready sooner. I don't mind being a little early on the slower areas if it is the difference between doing or not doing something.

It's the "what's best right now" vs "when is the absolute perfect moment".

Perfect is the enemy of good at times.

two weeks after germination, the grass in my lawn look like the seedling on the right:

Long shoot with very little root growth.
That's why pout is important.
