So I had a question about Sprout and Pout - Can one expect more greening overall with better/more uniform coverage as other seeds germinate and catch up with the early starters so they can start their own sprout and pout? Or is sprout and pout further down the line when all the seed you're going to get to germinate have already germinated?

I'm REALLY hoping with my earlier-than-normal seed drop date of 8/10, I'll get to see the end of sprout n pout this year. I'm very glad I went early.

That's sprout and pout. It can last weeks. Annoying, intolerable weeks. You may not even leave sprout and pout before the end of the season, depending, although early renovators will probably notice it ending in early October.

Fear not. The grass that seems to be doing nothing is actually setting up root systems. It has enough greenery to do that, and it's happier working on the things that will let it survive the winter and regrow strongly next spring. Right now, top growth is secondary and unimportant to the grass--even if it's really important to you.

Don't use high nitrogen feeding to force the grass to grow--it won't work anyway. It's going to leave sprout and pout when it's durned well ready and not before. But feed as you should, that will help the roots develop.

This is yet another case where nature's goals are at odds to ours, but nature's actually make sense. Ours do not.
Great description. You are missed morph.

I can relate to many renovators That just feel the need to do SOMETHING. BLKH, milo... Anything is better than watching it not grow. I still have two lawns that need fall apps of SOP and/or Epsom. I'm scared to do anything . But it's hard to resist.

Yup. Par for the course. You're itching to do anything to move things along. I've got ten bucks that says in about two weeks the forum will be be full of threads about "can I cut the lawn now? How about now? Now?".

Relax. If it's in Sprout-and-Pout now, then everything is on-track.

I think that's one of the things I don't like about seeding with a northern mix. While my kbg is in sprout and pout, the PRG and to some extent the fescue is starting to fold over. I don't think I have a choice but to give it a hair cut.

Everyone knows that once Renovation Season is over, the words "Sprout-and-Pout" cannot be used again until 10 days after seed-down next year -- right?

Well, I see what you kbg guys mean about sprout and pout. I am so used to tttf, once it germinates, it's off to the races. F'ing kbg germinates and just sits there.

Last year my blueberry jumped from the ground and demanded cut in 3 weeks, blasted right through S&P. :yahoo:

This year, I'm experiencing sprout n pout in all its full glory with Bewitched. :banghead:

I WANT TO CUT IT EVERY OTHER DAY. I DO.

Yeah, yours is WAY ahead of mine! :good:

Mine has perked up a bit - I knew it would be a long haul with the beating mine's taken, but I'm getting antsy. I'm at 4 weeks tomorrow - I hope to get the reel mower out this weekend.

yep. I think today is day 30 for me. I cut it Sunday and it needs another cut today. The weekly feedings have really helped, I think.
