Mites and other insects

I plan on planting a few different junipers and other evergreens. Often I read that spider mites can be a problem with them. If I were to annually use something like Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub Insect Control proactively, would that solve any problems from coming up? Is there a reason not to do this?

You surely don't want to treat if it not needed. That's a sure fire way to kill beneficials that may help keep spider mites under control. It's easy to monitor throughout the growing season doing a paper test, just google mites paper test. If treatment is needed a specific mitecide product will give best control and reduce non target pests.

You don't have to use them until they come up. Maintain your garden well and remove weeds periodically. As Kmartel said, monitor throughout the growing season.
