Hickory - Tolerant of Sulfur foliar?
I plan to spray Bayer Natria Insect, Disease, Mite (which contains sulfur and Pyrethrins) on a hickory tree to kill remaining gypsy moth caterpillars that were too large for Bt to work.
I'm not sure which sub-type of hickory, but it's one of the large-leaved types.
I shouldn't have an issue with the sulfur in this spray on that type of tree, right?

didn't find anything cautionary online or on the product label, so I sprayed it tonight. Hoping it kills the rest of them. Of course, there's always more.
Also put up sticky bands on two trees tonight--an Oak that is almost totally defoliated (don't want the same to happen to the second set of leaves)--and a Shag Bark Hickory that's partially defoliated.

you catching anything on the traps? You might need to pick them off each day if you've trapped any above the line.
Did you set up a bird feeder there?

I'm not catching much on them. Almost nothing. But...there are a good number of caterpillars trapped below the line, that can't go any further.
Unfortunately, the gum I used dripped down the bark a bit...hopefully not bad for the trees. I applied it at night almost in the dark, and the mosquitos were trying to bite me, so it wasn't exactly precision.
No bird feeder. I have noticed live caterpillars randomly falling off trees, though. Not sure what might cause that.

All I can think of, is, that fungus that kills them might be active in this area now, and they're starting to die off. I read that they fall off the trees when that happens. They're still alive, though. The fungus is active two towns away, verified by the experimental station.

I was looking today and it seems that for some reason the big cats are dieing...... quite possible the wet spring is catching up to them.
Hopefully that means relief next spring

I put up sticky bands on 3 more trees this evening. I know it's a bit late...but whatever.
Starting to see moths...they're not gypsy moths, are they? Still too early, isn't it?
The chewing of leaves and dropping of poop is slowing down.
