Removing Roots From Your Yard
What's the best way to remove roots from your yard after cutting down trees? I have a riverbirch and a maple in my front yard that I'm going to cut down because they've become too big for the area, and the roots are taking over my grass (especially the riverbirch).

Hard labor or heavy equipment. I don't know of any shortcuts. You could rent or have someone come in with a stump grinder to attack the beefiest parts of the roots closest to the trunk.

If you go the stumpgrinder route....man, tarp off the area and just leave the *hole* where it needs access....
Have had couple of stumps ground day in my days. What a god aweful mess it makes..

Yeah, I think I'm going to go the stump grinding route. Trying to do it by hand doesn't seem like a viable option considering how large they are.
