Pre-M Around Shrubs
I'm looking for a good way to keep the weeds out of my mulch beds around shrubs and perennials...any suggestions. Applying the mulch thicker doesn't always seem to work. Is there a Pre-M that I can put down either under or on top of the mulch?

I'm sure you're familiar with Preen, the de facto standard at box stores. It's an easy to apply granular, but it can get expensive if you have a lot of beds. If you don't, it does what it's supposed to do and can be a good choice.
Last fall, I picked up a quart of Surflan Pro. I haven't gotten around to using it, but that's the plan very soon. As a liquid concentrate, it'll require a little more effort to apply than Preen, but it's WAY cheaper.
I had a very good reason for choosing Surflan rather than spraying Dimension which I already own, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. The results of my research are a blur. Perhaps this presentation will shed some light on the pros and cons of each:
