Help identifying shrubs and pruning details
The purple in the last pic is a type of Barberry and other than regular trimming to keep shape nothing you need to do. It will lose its leaves in winter and look pretty bare but that's normal.
The grass growing over it is a type of ornamental grass that will eventually have plumes shoot out the top with flowers. It will turn brown in fall which you can back at that time or leave for winter appearance and cut back in early spring for new growth.

Re: Help identifying shrubs and pruning details
Thanks, the barberry can be trimmed for shape at any point of the year, or should it be done in the dorm stage?
