Weeds in Junipers
I have a landscaped area where we have some evergreen trees and junipers around the bottom. Unfortunately there is a clover-like weed growing in the junipers. Any idea how to kill this without killing the junipers? I have tried pulling, but there are hundreds of these little things, plus I can't get a good grip so I'm just breaking off the tips.
Any ideas are appreciated, thanks!

Re: Weeds in Junipers
This is one of those odd situations where you ask a question that no one knows the answer to, so you have to answer it yourself! Apparently WBG will kill clovers that are growing in/around junipers without hurting the junipers. I decided to try this because it had gotten so bad, I figured I wasn't willing to keep the junipers if I had to deal with a clover infestation.
I think this was probably the wrong forum for this question. I'm not sure if a juniper is a shrub, I don't really like them but my wife does. Happy wife, happy life!

Re: Weeds in Junipers
Describe the "clover", please. Especially, if it is flowering at all, describe the flowers.

Mine too. I just weeded out a buttload of it from the gardens and sprayed the rest. Fortunately, it does NOT like Round Up.

I get some, but more wood sorrel in the gardens. It dies easily when sprayed.

Re: Weeds in Junipers
sorry, didn't mean to use vulgar language! I've had oxalis, black medic and lots of spotted spurge this year. Nothing compared to the chickweed this past spring, but the daggone spurge is going like gangbusters this season!

Geez, grounded again! Next time, would it be better if I say I have some of those clover-like weeds with yellow flowers and a boatload that have green leaves with purple spots on them that ooze a milky substance if you break stem?

Ah, spotted spurge, seems to be taking off right about now in Md. Careful getting that milky juice on your skin, it is an irritant! Use gloved hands and pull it out when you see it.

Yes, it would. As soon as you say "clover-like weeds with yellow flowers" we know it's like you just said, "Fudge." We know what you meant.

Re: Weeds in Junipers
the sap from the prostrate weed with purple spots on the leaves doesnt' irritate my skin. It sort of leaves a sticky residue that the dirt sticks to and looks awful until I was my hands, but not irritating. No burning like some of the euphoribias can.

Yep, that looks like your run of the mill white clover! Glad you were able to get rid of it.

Re: Weeds in Junipers
Has anyone tried WBG or any other herbicide on Blue Rug Juniper? I have some white clover breaking out in mine. It is really hard to get under the blue rug as you can imagine.gtnike wrote: ↑August 6th, 2012, 2:47 pmThis is one of those odd situations where you ask a question that no one knows the answer to, so you have to answer it yourself!
