Always check with the manufacturer about whether overspraying perennials with herbicides is safe for the species being oversprayed. Almost all large vendors have a consumer support line.

The herbicide Imazaquin (Image) is listed as safe for use in blue rug juniper. Controls many weed including clover.

So I've been using Image. It's a slow, slow kill. Use a surfactant. I does work. Also good in hosta.
