Annual flower seeds

Post by pristinegreen75 » April 14th, 2023, 2:36 pm

Quic question. I usually put my annual seeds in the garden the first week in May. Since it was so mild this winter and still is, I'm wondering if it would be OK to plant them now? Reasoning would be I would get blooms sooner. Thanks!

A mild winter with current mild weather doesn't mean you won't have another frost or freeze. So the soil may be warm enough, but they'd still possibly be subject to a frost/freeze.

Tru dat.

I've started my flats and grown them in (photo from yesterday below from A Cellar in Pennsylvania). Hardening Off Day looks like this Wednesday, which is incredibly early. But I won't hesitate to drag everything back into the kitchen if it even looks like we risk frost.

Planting won't be until I'm certain we're after last frost. Which also looks to be incredibly early this year; first estimate is April 26-May 1st. But again, I won't hesitate to move that later at the drop of a hat.
