Pink Hydrangeas not doing well
I have blue and pink hydrangeas in planters. They're both treated the same and are in the same location in front of the house which gets part sun. The blue ones are doing great, the pink ones are doing poorly. I keep the soil moist but not wet, however we've had about 6 inches of rain over the past 5 days and I didn't move the planters so they have been getting quite a bit of water lately. I fertilize with a liquid 10-4-3 and do it about weekly or so. They've been in the planters for just a couple of weeks so I've only fertilized twice, today being the second time. They both were a bit wilted when we bought them but the blue ones really perked up. The pink ones got better after the first dose of fertilizer and then deteriorated. Any idea what's going on?

leaves look great on the pink one, it could just be finished blooming. Did you by them in full bloom?

It perked up after getting some fertilizer. Must've needed N.

That is good to hear. It doesn't seem anyone had any insight. I certainly didn't.

Well... they're starting to wilt again.. I read that hydrangeas' colors are related to soil pH. I'm wondering if the soil pH of the pink ones is not appropriate for it. I just fertilized again so we'll see. I'm going to do a suncalc as well when I get back from vacation on Saturday.

I'm no hydrangea expert, but I also read that the higher pH leads to more pink instead of purple color on the ones I have. Mine haven't bloomed yet.

Re: Pink Hydrangeas not doing well
Mine certainly wilt daily in the heat and if they arent watered every other day the wilting becomes more sever.
Also mine are in the ground so I'd suspect you need daily waterings.
Mine get sun from about 2 or 3 until sundown.
The blue one looks like a hybrid of some sort though, the leaves are more ovate so it might be a cross with a mountain hydrangea or something like H. Serrata.
That would explain its heat tolerance as the pink is definitely a macrophylla.
Another possibility is one side of the staircase might be getting sun an hour or so earlier..
