Spring's Underway

Post by MorpheusPA » March 25th, 2021, 3:41 am

It's definitely not forsythia time just yet, but spring's definitely started with the crocus and Siberian iris. The squill will be next, probably no later than next week...

Extensive enchantments and virgin sacrifice. And finding a virgin in 2021 is no mean feat, let me tell you that.

These are the dwarf 5" Siberian iris that blossom first in spring...https://www.brecks.com/product/Alida-Dw ... aEQAvD_BwE

Just as one example. I think I got mine from Brecks', but don't remember, and I have both the blue and purple.

They don't last long; they're already starting to wilt, but I cut a dozen or so to press for dried flowers. I do like them because they're one of the first to blossom in the gardens, simultaneously with the earliest crocus (I have several types).

Thanks Morph....I never knew...mine have been in the ground for about 25 years. Of course I have performed surgery on them over the years and they are all around my mulch perimeter. They are pretty when they bloom but unfortunately only last a couple of days. I'm going to check on those dwarf variety.
