Second season with knockout roses in our new house (we had lots of knockout roses and tea roses in our old house). They survived our spring planting last year with minimal damage.

I've always started the spring with Bayer Bioadvanced 2-in-1 Systemic Rose and Flower Care 6-9-6 and 0.22% Imidacloprid) to give them a boost and to get ready for the aphid invasion.

Any other suggestions or is this good for now?

You're good. Feed roses now for good first blooms, and for Knockouts (that bloom fast and hard through the entire season if encouraged), keep feeding at least monthly through the season (until late summer). For less energetic bloomers, spring feeding and again in June will be sufficient.

You usually don't need to pre-app for aphids. Just keep an eye out and do it the moment you see them. Half the time, natural controls will do the job for you.

I do pre-app for Japanese beetles, though. Since I started, flower loss has been minimal in the July blossom.

Thanks, Morpheus. Now that the roots are established, I wanna see if they can have a good growth spurt this season.

Biggest annoyance will be dealing with the blackspot in the humid summer months (cleanup spotted leaves, spray Daconil, repeat, repeat, repeat).

I don't have much other than a Knockout Double Red and a Knockout Yellow, personally. There's no room for much other than that given the annual gardens...

Mine just popped yesterday with a bunch of flowers. Just planted last August but they seem to love our backyard.

Nice! Prune regularly, treat with TLC (fertilizer, water only in mornings, watch the diseases and pests) and you'll be rewarded with lots of beautiful blooms!

Yep, mine went too, today, about a week early. The bush is stressed, dry, and not very happy with me, but recovering now that I fed and watered it...

Jeeeshh... I just looked tonight and the buds are covered with little white things. Aphids? Should I apply Bayer Bioadvanced 2-in-1 Systemic Rose and Flower?

I'm a believer in the Bayer Bioadvanced 2-in-1: aphids may still eat some of the rose, but they'll be sorry

For faster results, you also can spray them with Orthene insecticide or Malathion, but I do this only as a last resort.

Totally agreed. I use 3 in 1 myself, a more general formula, with the same result. The aphids nibble and...are very unhappy. Application just before the Japanese beetles appear also results in a nice July rose bloom and very unhappy beetles.

I meant the insect treatment, which is totally different and a 3 in 1. I thought the Rose & Flower Care was a 2 in 1 product.

I usually combine mine with an anti-fungal just to be safe. I mean...it's a rose. I think I still have Rose Pride left over.

Ok, I got the 2 in 1 down on Friday and sprinkled a little sevin on earlier last week to slow the buggers down. It seems to be clearing them out and the roses continue to explode. This is my first full year so I wasn't sure what to expect but these are beautiful!

By the way, two years into my knockout roses, and I feel like I have it somewhat figured out. Thanks to you guys, my roses are a knockout. Get it! ... Thanks again for all of your expert guidance!

Those look great! Mine...not so great this year. The younger yellow is good, the old red is turning 18 and, I think, just getting old.
