Let's hope the overnight Euro model just in is very wrong. It has Florence making landfall as a category 3/4 hurricane into the Carolina's and then stalls it for 4+ days over the east coast in Virginia. The flooding would be like nothing anyone has ever seen. Easily a 1 in 100+ year catastrophic event for the east coast states. Based soley on this run, worst flooding is in NC/VA/MD.

Hurricane Florence: Could Be Very Bad
Expected to regain hurricane status today, Florence is looking like a real problem. Here's what a good East Coast meteorologist (not prone to hyperbole) had to say this morning (Sunday):

+1. Even up here in Pennsylvania, I'm madly collecting seeds (even in the rain) for next year's gardens. If Florence moves north, we take a beating. If she doesn't, we still get modest winds and stiff rain for days.
For those in the impact zone, be really careful. She may make landfall as Category 4. That is not a survivable event close to the beach...

Re: Hurricane Florence: Could Be Very Bad
It's gaining strength rapidly now, and bad impacts have gone from "possible" to "likely". Up to 30" of rain could make this a monster in the Carolinas and maybe Virginia. Those of us in the Northeast may get a good soaking early next week.
If you're in the Carolinas near the ocean, please don't spend any time protecting your renovations - get the house protected and then get out of Dodge!
Here's the expected total rainfall for the next week:

Looks like the 5-7 inch range for where I am. 2-3 of that is supposed to be now through Wednesday. I'll take it.

The models are not making things look any better for anywhere in the Carolina's or Georgia. Stay safe and get out if you can.

Actually it looks *much* better for us in Raleigh now - very surprising dip south... Thinking about everyone in the path though...
