Hostas rotting?
This is my first go around with hostas. I planted 17 hostas last fall and now am experiencing some issues.
7-8 appear to have what is some kind of rot. They all showed nice firm pips this spring but then the problem plants started to grow deformed foliage and become mushy. They easily break off releasing a horrid smell.
Any ideas?

Re: Hostas rotting?
I have a lot of hostas, and the up/down of this Spring has led to some distorted spikes. But rotting and stinking are not typical problems.
Is that a ton of Milorganite next to the pictured hosta?

Yes it is Milorganite. I may have overdone it.
I just put the Milorganite down yesterday but this problem has been going on for 2+ weeks.

Re: Hostas rotting?
I'm moving the thread to Shade Gardening - Hostas are not Annuals and generally aren't grown as flowers.

Re: Hostas rotting?
OK thanks. I failed to see this sub forum when I posted it.
I think I'll probably end up digging them up and replacing them. Seems unlikely they will recover.

Re: Hostas rotting?
I wouldn't. I'd give them a month - I've seen new spikes after mowing them and worse freeze damage than that!
