What a difference a few feet make

These two hostas where purchased at the same time,place and planted the same day.

They are opposite each other under a sycamore tree. Too much sun for the under grown one? It faces SE......morning sun.

Maybe, but that's not the way I'm betting. Hostas tend to prefer morning sun (light, no heat). And I don't see any of the characteristic bleaching that precedes scorching (burnt leaf edges). I see an uncharacteristically small second flush of leaves, which might point at buried rock, root, etc that's keeping it from getting a steady supply of nutrients. It's just a guess with pictures, but that doesn't look like a sun problem to my eye.
