Where have all the good sprinklers gone?
I'm doing a renovation on my lawn in central Kentucky. Roundup, wait a week, roundup, wait a week, scalp and reseed with tall fescue. I need sprinklers.
About 4 years ago I bought the Home depot pulsating stab in sprinklers like these http://www.homedepot.com/p/Melnor-Delux ... /100177904
They worked well that first year but since then I haven't been able to get them to oscilate properly. Not a big deal since I only needed them to water in small reseeded repairs. This year I'll need to water all of the back yard and most of the front and I don't want to spend all day moving sprinklers. Both yards are about 2000 sq feet though not square.
Does anybody have any first hand experience with any sprinklers that are worth a darn?
I'm pretty handy with the PVC so I wouldn't be opposed to building a base a buying pop up style sprinkler if their quality is any better.
Thanks

I went with a pop up sprinkler mounted on a spike using hunter MP heads (no PVC needed, only hoses). I like them so much that I ended up burring them using poly pipe. What are the length and width of your areas?

Both are about 35x45 feet but the front has a hill to deal with.

Re: Where have all the good sprinklers gone?
Now that I finally have a sprinkler system I have a pile of hoses and sprinklers stacked by the side of my house but I got a lot of experience with portables before getting irrigation installed..
If you are looking at portable sprinklers, I was happy with the Rain Bird 25P JDAC Brass Impact Sprinklers.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000 ... PDKIKX0DER
Any 1/2 inch base will work but make sure there is enough room/depth where the sprinkler screws in or they will bind.
If you like spikes, I used some of these.
Orbit 58197N 1/2" Step Spike Base for Garden Hose & Sprinkler
https://www.amazon.com/Orbit-58197N-Spi ... PZ2CZS196C
The 90 degree is too short on the Orbit 1/2-Inch Metal Ring Sprinkler Base 58030; sometimes they work but most of them don’t give enough room for the sprinkler to move up and down with the water pressure. They may work fine with the Orbit sprinklers but are hit and miss with the Rain Bird

If you can find Nelson spike sprinklers they've been great for me.
I wouldn't hesitate to make some pvc ones either. But the heads are like $12+ for good ones

Most lowes have rainbird pop ups and poly flex pipe. If you connect multiple heads I would recommend getting the 3/4" flex pipe, 1/2" tends to not deliver enough water.
