Sewage bill tied to water usage. Drill my own well?

Records are kept with local boards of health but really those are just specifications of the well that is drilled. Also no one regulates private wells if it serves less than 25 people.

...... not everybody has a well hanging down into an aquifer either.....

It's no small job installing a deep well pump properly.

Never thought about just having a hole drilled and then finishing it myself. I've been in contact with a gentleman from emergency water wells and I like his system. They have a large bore system that will accommodate a submersible pump. Link below.

this idea is very dependent on a very high water table and a sandy sub soil that is easy to drill into. Some aquifers can be 1000+ ft down. Also the source needs to handle potentially thousands of gallons at a time without running dry. A lot of ifs on a thing that is pretty crucial in turf grass.

And I'm very aware of that. I may be able to irrigate with it, or not. I may hit water, or not. You can combine these systems by drilling 2 or more if needed and connect them. If I'm only able to have enough water for plants and washing cars I'll be okay with that.

Neither of my wells are in an aquifer. One is on a very high water table, and supplies limitless water - I can run my irrigation system, showers in my house, and I don't notice any water pressure chance hardly - maybe a tad on the spigots if I run them too. Water drains into the well pit from the surrounding soil to feed it.

The other is on 7' of soil, then 180' of black shale. It has barely any output as the soil is so tight water won't move through the soil. And, the deeper you go the more you battle having to treat the water you get as it often contains higher levels of sulfur (that rotten egg smell), etc.

That's what I'm hoping for, that is, the high water table. From what I've read its hit and miss though. I'll try in multiple places if needed. Property is only half an acre though so I'm somewhat limited in that aspect.
