New Irrigation Meter - Capping Old Line

Long story short, Atlanta charges obscene water rates. I had an irrigation meter installed at the street and I want to tie it into my new system. I can do most of the work myself, but I was wondering about capping the old line that runs off my main inbound water line. I sketched out the current setup. Basically I just want to cut into the pvc line that runs to the first bib valve (my primary on/off valve for the system). Would it be that simple as cutting the line and gluing a pvc cap piece on?

How would you turn off the water to the spot where you want to cap the old line? Can you (or someone) turn it off at the street? If not, it's gonna get "real interesting" when your reciprocating saw cuts into the existing line.

Yeah I can just turn it off at the street and drain the line.

Assuming that it's all PVC, and you have the cleaning purple, the right glue and the right size cap, it should go smoothly then.

I would also suggest you shut the valve off at the house, as well. There a lot of water in those pipes, in your house. It will keep the trench much drier.
