I just crossed the 40-lbs lost number. I love the way-of-eating regimen, but don't want to add carbs back into the program (Diabetes), and I'm challenged to find a way to eat more on the same program (it's very satiating!). I'll figure it out...

I’ve ate kerrygold like a candybar before.

LOL! Also on Keto and that's my go to butter for cooking. You guy's ever try fathead pizza? There is also a good copy cat Taco Bell keto crunchwrap that tastes like the real thing.

A big celebration day for me today! I hit the "50 lbs lost number" (266=>216 lbs for a 6' 6" guy ), and the Body Mass Index number flipped from overweight to normal on the same day. Diabetes numbers also now below "prediabetic" from "dangerous" a little less than 7 months ago. I can't overstate how good Keto program has been for me. Doc is going to flip out when I go in for new tests in 3 weeks!

Nice job Andy. I’m 6’ 1” but now 245 which is the heaviest I’ve ever been.

I’ve not done keto expressly but two weeks ago I had the epiphany that it was time to get my weight down to where I normally am which is around 200.

Getting bread and most carbs out of my diet I’ve already dropped 4 pounds.

What are you doing for exercise?

Mostly just walking and working in the yard (14,000+ steps in the yard yesterday).

Keto doesn't work if you allow ANY fast-acting carbs (bread, pasta, etc). And the way-of-eating doesn't really permit "cheat days" once a week. Ketosis takes as much as 5-days to reestablish once the body has has switched to carb-burning, so once a week cheating means you spend more time out of ketosis than in it.

Do it your way though - people succeed more often when they are comfortable with their program, and can do it long-term. Best of luck!!

Started keto and just finished up my first week! The initial water weight loss is pretty amazing, but not sure I've felt great so far in the first week. A bit on the tired/foggy side, but I read that can go away in a week or two.

I've never been extremely heavy, but probably always 20-25 lbs above my ideal weight. I'm going to give it a month and re-evaluate if its for me.

I struggle with the fact that I can't eat a large salad full of a ton of vegetables (which i enjoy), but understand the reasoning behind that with too many carbs. Also a big fan of craft beer, but that will have to take a break for now.

That being said, what are some of your favorite meals/things to eat on keto? particularly on the simple side? I jumped into this pretty quickly and been eating a lot of the same stuff and probably need to branch out. My 'go to' for breakfast is coffee with a tablespoon of butter and coconut oil. Makes the morning routine quick and easy, gets some fat % right away and amazingly keeps me full till lunch.

Not as much "water weight loss" as you'd think. The "fogginess" is something that some people get (I didn't) that is nicknamed the "Keto Flu". You get the alertness back very soon, but after that you get it back BIG TIME with interest late in week 3 or week 4, when all of a sudden it's like someone took a veil off of you, and you're better than you've been in years.

I lost 63 lbs in 6-7 months. My wife lost 55+ lbs at the same time.
I struggle with the fact that I can't eat a large salad full of a ton of vegetables (which i enjoy), but understand the reasoning behind that with too many carbs. Also a big fan of craft beer, but that will have to take a break for now.
You don't have to avoid salads AT ALL. Now, carrots, beets and garbanzo beans have to go, but hell, they get replaced by cheeses, full fat salad dressings, avocadoes, and Lord the almighty bacon. Everything in the world is better with bacon. My dinner this evening was a big Romaine salad with avocadoes, full fat bleu cheese dressing, a large amount of chicken salad with full-fat mayonnaise, and (drum roll please) BACON.

The world is not all carbs and fats - make sure to get those proteins in the right percentage.

I've been on Keto now for 15 months, and my weight is stable at the target weight - so is my wife's. We are never going back to the carb-filled world. All of my blood test numbers are better (some far better!) than when I started - including cholesterol, lipids and triglycerides. My blood sugar numbers are in the normal range 95% of the time, and the surprises are very few.

Andy - those are amazing results! congrats on your success!

hoping this 'flu' goes away soon, actually felt pretty good for a portion of today, so maybe I'm getting through it.

I think I'll add that salad to my menu this week, it sounds great!

Agreed on the bacon, its amazing the stuff you used to think you shouldn't eat can be incorporated often. Yesterday I had a cheese steak (minus the roll), but usually would walk right past it in the cafeteria.

I'll report back in several weeks on how its going, my initial goal is to stick with this through July 19 and evaluate results.

About your question about "recipes" - my answer is "not really". You'll learn what ingredients work well with Keto, and what makes a good replacement for ingredients that are no-no's. For example, gravies use starches to thicken them, but just a little Xanthan Gum can do the job too. Oh yeah, the people that are religious nuts about this stuff say "oh no!" but I'm still doing it and many of them quit.

You'll learn, and it doesn't have to be the same stuff day after day.

I did it for about 4 months then fell off the wagon while on vacation, and struggled to get back on it. It’s a bit difficult when you’re the only one in the house doing it. I’m 6’1” and was 180lb, so my goal wasn’t to lose weight, just read about the increased energy and figured more energy is always good. lol Anyway, I started losing weight and a member on another forum said I would stop losing weight around 160lbs and he hit the nail on the head. Increased energy and my psoriasis was gone! Fell off the wagon and guess what? Psoriasis was back. I’ve been back on Keto now for about a week. Keto itself isn’t hard, it’s making certain foods for a picky child, meals for the other children and wife, and then a Keto meal for myself that’s the struggle. It’s basically 3 different meals we have to make. As for salads, in addition to full fat dressing, drizzle some olive oil or avocado oil on it! Excellent source of fat! I’ve found 3tbsp to be about right for an average bowl of salad. Also you can buy some Atkins bars/candy for convenient low carb snacks that will satisfy a sweet craving. Although not always a great source of fat, they are low carb/sugar and usually have decent protein.

I certainly hear you Envy23. I am the only one in my family doing it and sometimes makes things difficult, but luckily I am not a picky eater at all and can put together a meal based upon whatever we might have. as you mention, the avocado and olive oil are key! Just got back from a family vacation and was able to keep it going through that. Was initially worried, but had no issues.

I'm 6 weeks in and down 19 pounds so motivated to keep going forward with it.

Here's yet another story about Keto and Inflammation.

My wife has some kind of painful problem with the big toe area of one foot. The specialist thought Psoriatic Arthritis and sent her off for tests to measure inflammation levels, which should be significantly elevated. Were they elevated? No. Normal? No. Low? No.

They were practically zero. He was flabbergasted, and then she mentioned Keto. His words? "There you go".

thats amazing. I was having an odd pain/feeling in my lower calf area prior to doing this, mostly off and on and feeling it at night. never sure what it was, but haven't felt it in the 1.5 months on keto!

speakng of keto, here is something I am making this weekend that both my wife and I really like. I'm a big fan of making home made 'simple soups' and this fits the bill. I simplified this even further than what the recipe calls for:

Spare Rib Soup:
https://norecipes.com/bak-kut-teh-recipe-sparerib-soup/

I do a lot of smoked ribs and save the trimmings for this. I don't bother rinsing the water per the recipe, but use it all for the broth. It's basically simmering fatty pieces of pork ribs in water for a couple hours. What makes it interesting are the cinnamon sticks that give it the slightest bit of sweetness. From a keto perspective will have to cut back/eliminate the papaya.
