Definitely going to try this out! Thanks, Gary! Ever since we moved here from the Western `burbs, I have been in search for a decent pizza and Eye-talian beef sammich. No luck, although they do make a nice pork tenderloin sammich hereabouts! If this works out, I'm gonna find some Eye-talian sah-sache and build me a nizhe cahhhmbo, like over by dere on the Sout Side!

As a former Chicagoan I sure do miss the Italian beef sandwiches. Not to mention the Pepper& Egg sandwiches for breakfast. Add Pasta Fagioli (pasta fazool) to the list, along with Chicken Lemone to the list as well. I don't think Houston has any real Italians down here. With much fanfare, for some of the former Chicagoans, they are opening a Geno's pizza resturant here, finally. With fingers crossed, I hope it's as good as Geno's East once was.

A similar deal here in Fort Wayne; I told my son that, since we moved here in 2012, there is now a total of 3/4 of a Polish person here (1/2 from me, 1/4 from him). Most of the European population here seems to be of German descent, so we keep a close eye on our borders...

Oze, Yup! I witnessed many bar brawls on Milwakee Avenue after work between the Germans and the Polish guys I worked with. Nostrovia! ,with a shot of Jägermeister in hand. Then the fun began.

Tony,

Funny scene to imagine, the traditional Polish toast made with the traditional German liquor, then the brawl! When I lived in the burbs, we used to make pilgrimages to the Milwaukee AV area of Little Poland in Chi, usually ending up at Bobak's. Funny, the Bobak family opened up a great Polish grocery store in an abandoned Eagle Food Store building, only 2 miles from my house in SW Naperville. They even had a little buffet restaurant in back. Then the Bobak brothers feuded, and all was lost. My cholesterol levels dropped precipitously after that! When I a search for Polish delis/restaurants when we moved here, my only hits were nail salons. :(

Oze, I better make this my last off topic post, but I wanted to say that the above story was a true one.
Some of my fondest memories as a young apprentice working for a multi-ethnic electrical contractor was this, the best treatment I ever received was from the Polish and Lithuanian journeymen.
Their mantra was: "Treat Others As You Wish To Be Treated". I've lived by that sound advice ever since.

In the slow cooker at 11 last night; I guess it will cook for an extra hour. I'll turn it down to "warm" then. Can't wait for the reviews from my ex-Chicago snobby kids.

The only issue is that, being a weekend, I have to smell it all day and resist the temptation of sampling it to make sure it's not poison!

Picked up a sirloin roast on sale today and into the pot it goes with the goodies. Scored some Dell'Alpe hot giardiniera for this go'round to boot. Thanks again Gary. We miss you around here.
