I have a storm drain in my front yard, during the 100 degree days in Oklahoma, the metal cooks everything within 6 inches of the drain. The worst part is that when we do finally get rain, all the dirt is washed away because the grass is dead. I want to put down some brick or maybe a cedar 4x4 in front of the drain to stop this vicious cycle!! Any ideas or suggestions would be great! I have a few months to figure out what to do!

My first thought is to paint the top, back, and front surface of the vertical curb drains with a silver/reflective paint. That should drastically lower the iron temperature, as well as the surrounding soil.
