Lawn Rolling

Post by dmykins » April 6th, 2017, 8:24 am

Good Morning Everyone,

Question regarding lawn rolling, does it hurt or does it help?

My front lawn is decent, just little bumpy nothing crazy, but my backyard is pretty bad. For those that have had it done, does it only work on minor bumps or does it really flatten out large divots? Say tire marks?

Thanks everyone!

My personal experience, doing it myself, was negligible. I used a hand pull behind roller. Yes the soil was moist and I went over it a few times but I couldn't tell a difference before/after.

Lawn rollers are more for pressing new seed and new sod down against the underlying soil. They are not for flattening hills or other bumps. The topic you want is called leveling. If all you have is one tire track, I would let it dry out and use a combination of hoes and rakes to move the heaved soil back to the lower part and water it.
