Newbie question
Looking at the basic lawn care article for cool season grasses it states to apply nitrogen at 1lb evenly. Does this mean 1lb per 1k sqft? Is this just pure nitrogen like urea or will any high nitrogen work like Vigoro super green that is 35-0-5?

Re: Newbie question
You can use any source of nitrogen. If you're using something that is 35-0-5, you'd use a little less than 3 lbs per 1000 sq ft (1/.35=2.857) to get 1 lb of actual nitrogen.

Re: Newbie question
It means 1lb of actual N per 1k sqft. While any nitrogen source will work, Urea is a fast acting nitrogen (it becomes available at once) and does need to be watered in.
The commercial products (ie. Vigoro or Scotts or Sta-Green or Menards) have a component of slow release nitrogen (ie. coated Urea) that is easier to apply and has less risk of burning the grass with too much nitrogen at once. The one you list is 23% Urea and 12.0% coated Urea (a total of 35% nitrogen). Ensure you dont over apply above the 1lbN/ksqft rate. It also has a 5% iron which could make the lawn look greener depending on the ph of your soil. It could also stain your sidewalks/driveway if not cleaned up.
