I'm not sure what it is, but I think that if you slam your other palm down in the one with the bug, you'll succeed in killing it*.

I let my pool take care of those. Otherwise, I don't see them during the day. Is this species a particular nuisance to you?

Exomala orientalis
The oriental beetle (Exomala orientalis) is primarily a problem in coastal regions, including much of Connecticut and Rhode Island, southeastern Massachusetts (especially Cape Cod), and the North Shore of Massachusetts. We have also found oriental beetles in most samples taken from towns bordering the Connecticut River in Massachusetts.

Might want to do some grub preventative next year since that's what these critters start as. Although they could be coming from a neighboring yard what with the wings and all.

Are they causing a problem for you? If not ignore them.

I asked that in July with no response. If you check out Roland's other posts, you'll see that he's big on starting new threads and asking questions but not big on following up.
