Effectiveness of PreM Application
I put down prodiame at the 5 month rate 2 weeks ago using a backpack sprayer.
Looking around now, i see a couple of broadleaf weeds (4 in total ), clover, chickweed and hairy bittercress...
Should I be concered at either my application ?
If i missed a few spots do to uneven walking, then I’m ok with that. What I absolutely dont want is a breakout of crabgrass like I had last year.
I didnt water in immediatly, in fact the rain didnt it 3 days later. Could this be an issue?

Re: Effectiveness of PreM Application
Do some research on the weeds you see. Clover is a perennial; chickweed is a winter annual or perennial; and hairy bittercress can be a winter annual. A pre-M now targets summer annual weeds, not the weeds you've listed (although maybe germination of more clover). Use a post-M to target established perennial weeds like clover. Fall application of pre-M may help you prevent germination of winter annuals like chickweed and hairy bittercress.

I'd be interested in hearing more about what each pre-m prevents; but typically the spring pre-m prevents crab grass, and the summer/fall pre-m prevents poa annua. I have always assumed the pre-m doesn't do much for common broad leaf weeds.
I'd love to hear more about what other common weeds pre-m can prevent....

You likely had those winter weeds before the pre emergent was applied.

What HLG and TimmyG said above. Also, Prodiamine (and most of the other related pre-Ms we use) is best at preventing grassy weeds. Not as effective on broadleaf weeds, so you could definitely still get some stuff like Oxalis, Spurge, Purslane, etc. popping up when it gets warmer.
Decent rain 3 days later should be fine for activating it.

It rained 5 days after application ... is this alright?Green wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2019, 12:45 pmWhat HLG and TimmyG said above. Do my own website says up to 14 days for activation... that seems long doesnt the grass aborb anything it touches ?
On a side note found 2 dandelions with long taproots that have had to been there since last season, I lost the carnival game and was only able to score 1 of the 2.

Yeah, it should be fine. I've gotten a lot of rain at times after applying, too. Never had issues with it causing a problem.
As far as dandelions, honestly, digging them out is the best way to get rid of them, unless you have tons, and then you can use an herbicide.

I mean, I didnt water in after the application, I relied on the rain 5 days after to water the herbicide in the soil.Green wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2019, 8:40 pmYeah, it should be fine. I've gotten a lot of rain at times after applying, too. Never had issues with it causing a problem.

Re: Effectiveness of PreM Application
I do. Yes. In fact, the rain is probably more even than anyone could ever water. As long as it was enough rain (usually a half inch is needed to activate a dinitroanaline pre-M).Fullheadofturf1234 wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2019, 10:11 pmI mean, I didnt water in after the application, I relied on the rain 5 days after to water the herbicide in the soil.
