Expandable Garden Hose

Post by mvftw » May 15th, 2020, 9:33 pm

One of my vinyl garden hose broke over winter. I'm looking to get a rubber hose and I'm noticing a lot of Expandable Hoses like the ones on TV.
I'm guessing they stink, but the reviews are 4+ stars. Anybody have experience with them? And if so can they be put on a spool and wound up?
They are a lot cheaper then rubber hoses...

There is a sound engineering reason why they stink. It takes water pressure to inflate the expandable hoses. I don't know how much water pressure gets sucked away, but if you attach a real hose to a sprinkler and compare it to an expandable hose, you won't get nearly the same coverage from the expandable.

Another reason I would not have one in the north is they retain water when the pressure is off. They will freeze in the winter.

Thx for the replies. Confirmed what I thought... I ended up getting a 'NeverKink Pro' at HD. I know it's vinyl, but it has a Life Time warranty (like I'll use that). It's not used a lot anyway...

I’ve got two neverkinks hoses Purchased from the big box store. It’s the worst hose I’ve ever owned. It kinks EVERY single time I use it. And most of the it’s multi kinks. I don’t normally trash products, but the neverkink hose pisses me off every time I use it. I’ve now added a expandable hose to the end if it so I have less of the neverkink hose off the reel to kink.
As for the expandable hoses, I would say I like them, but they have limits. They aren’t as durable, you do loose a little pressure with them, but they are easy out and easy in.

I use Zero G hose that they seems to work well for me. Useful for my long driveway which can be a challenge if I have to drag long heavy hoses along with the pressure washer.
