diy lawn care
I live in Cincinnati Ohio. my lawn is in good not grat shape. i would like to start fertilizing my yard this year myself. What are some good pre emergant to use and weed control? and products to use throughout the year, I have some ky bluegrass and tall fescue.

The best thing to do is prepare emotionally for a multi-year process to get your lawn sorted out. Quick fixes don't exist. For me, the key was to learn the triangle approach to get the basics of weed control, start a fall and spring pre-emergent and do a soil test to get a plan to straighten out the soil chemistry (the source of most grass issues).
Regarding the pre-emergents, I apply prodiamine when the forsythia blooms in Spring and it has worked really well but other solutions exist. Read up on the options before rushing into it. Your weather is very similar to mine, so you probably have until the end of March to sort it out.
