Re: Primo Maxx
While primo is great, it doesn't do everything. I have not seen any increase in spreading or reduction in seedheads. It will darken the turf and significantly slow top growth. Studies suggest that it may increase spreading and increase root mass, but the data on those points is not good and I don't know that I believe it. If it does either of those things, the effect is minor in my lawn.

Re: Primo Maxx
With Milo not allowed to be imported into Canada anymore and my lawn pH of 7.2, maybe PGR and FAS could be an alternative strategy...

Re: Primo Maxx
PGR and FAS are a good combo. The FAS darkens the turf, and the PGR slows the process of growing out the dark green while adding a double dose of darkening. You can get quite dark green with the combo.

Sounds good. But since my lawn still needs some spreading and thickening from last year's reno and some winter kill, I'll probably hold off for now... thanks guys.

Totally fine to hold off.llO0DQLE wrote:Sounds good. But since my lawn still needs some spreading and thickening from last year's reno and some winter kill, I'll probably hold off for now... thanks guys.

I want to clarify, though, that Primo should not reduce spreading or thickening. If anything, research suggests the opposite. My personal experience is that, even if it does increase spreading or density, the effect is minimal and overshadowed by other lawn care factors.
Bottom line is that a need to spread and thicken would not deter me from using Primo.

Re: Primo Maxx
Is it okay to spray Tenacity with it on the same day?
And also how precisely does one need to apply it? I wonder if a slight overlap is better than a slight gap. Thx!

Re: Primo Maxx
I asked if the two could be mixed, and the company said to test it out on a small area. I didn't.seiyafan wrote:Is it okay to spray Tenacity with it on the same day?

If you're concerned about overlapping/not overlapping, spray half the amount in one direction and the other half perpendicular. It takes a long time but will help even the coverage.

I think Oze tried that. Try searching it out...seiyafan wrote:Thanks, instead of mixing what about one in the morning and the other in the afteroon/evening?

Re: Primo Maxx
Primo really needs to be applied evenly or you will see different growth rates as it starts to wear off. I would highly recommend a calibrated fan tip with 50% overlap on each pass. That means the outside edge of your spray pattern will be at the middle of the adjacent stripe. Fan tips are designed to work best that way.

Why yes, yes he did. Here http://aroundtheyard.com/renovations/pr ... 17800.html is a link to a thread about my having that very question, including a helpful email response from Syngenta (scroll down a bit).Green wrote:I think Oze tried that. Re: Primo Maxx
One issue I see with handheld sprayer is that the nozzel has different output rate with different pressure, as soon as the sprayer starts to spray the pressure decreases continuously, since it's not practical to pump it every 10 feet, do you start walking a little bit slower continuously? or am I thinking too hard on this?

Re: Primo Maxx
I'm due for a primo max and a Serenade app.
Is it ok to mix both together and apply at the same time?
How about using a spreader/ sticker ?

Re: Primo Maxx
You are not thinking too hard. Pressure will affect the flow rate. Precision spraying with a handheld can be difficult. For this reason I upgraded to a backpack sprayer. With one you can pump, walk, and spray at the same time. Some models also have a built in pressure regulator.seiyafan wrote:One issue I see with handheld sprayer is that the nozzel has different output rate with different pressure, as soon as the sprayer starts to spray the pressure decreases continuously, since it's not practical to pump it every 10 feet, do you start walking a little bit slower continuously? or am I thinking too hard on this?
I have blanked sprayed with a hand held before. If it is your only option, make sure you stop after each pass and pump it up more to keep the pressure up.
