Renovation w/ Fortitude, Firefly, Intrigue & Emblem
hey guys, so i finally got around to seeding last night after i cultivated the soil with the 4-prong thingy. i didn't want to aerate by poking holes again. maybe i'll do it if you feel it's necessary after seeing photos.
my mix from Bestlawn consisted of :
Firefly Hard Fescue
Fortitude Creeping Red Fescue
Intrigue Chewings Fescue
i bought Emblem as i just NEEDED to have it and plant it to see what the hubub is about.
Emblem KBG
i struggled for weeks deciding whether or not to do the full elite KBG like everyone on here so much loves, or because i have heavy shade from a magnolia tree to just do the fescues as is recommended. well i finally got the best of both worlds, i got the elite fescues mixed with the Emblem we all know and love.
from the way i eyeballed it using one of those disposable chinese soup containers i have 26% Firefly, 26% Fortitude, 26% Intrigue and 22% Emblem. i tried to keep it in the range of less than 20% but it came out like this and i hope it will turn out fine. i'm really happy that these are low maintenance grasses as the last 3 years of mowing, edging and weedwacking have unquestionably damaged my hearing.
i Glyphosphated
weedwacked the rubbish
i aerated by cultivating with 4 prong tool instead of aerating by poking holes
put seed down
put starter fertilizer down
put Launch down instead of Milorganite
Greenview Seed Accelerator
now i am just watering and waiting.
only a couple of questions:
1.i didn't put down lime, as i read it locks up nitrogen and renders it useless for weeks, when can i put it down. i never did a soil test i found out about it too late and maye i'll wait till next year now that all these nutrients will put the numbers out of wack.
2. since i cultivated instead of aerated by poking holes, the soils is sort of mishy mashy, it's not level i suppose you can say, shall i rake it down to level or will my waterings bring the level down.
Thanks to all of you who helped, you know who you are!

I think you can leave it be, it will level out over the winter. I seeded two years ago on 9/21/07; lets hope this weather sticks.

only a week, nothing is coming up, i suppose this is good for my maintenance schedule, i don't want to do so much mowing anymore. though birds are also eating my seeds.

Re: Renovation w/ Fortitude, Firefly, Intrigue & Emblem
Day 11 update
Emblem Monostand up close after 11 days:
Firefly, Fortitude, Intrigue, with 22% Emblem mixed in on left -- Emblem Monostand on right after 11 days
Firefly, Fortitude, Intrigue, with 22% Emblem mixed in on left after 11 days
Very satisfied so far, I may bite the bullet and put down some Milorganite just because i can feel it needs it, thought i still prefer the cow manure.
The leaves aren't an issue..... YET.
Do you think i should aerate by poking holes this weekend and seed a bit more since it will rain this weekend or shall i just put down a bit more seed?
