Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
Set up my "sprinkler system" today. Basically, I can irrigate 90% of my 6k square foot yard using 2 sprinklers in the front yard and 2 sprinklers in the backyard. I use a Melnor 4-zone digital water timer so I can run these zones early in the morning or at overseeding time, all day.
My backyard is easy, I run the hoses around the base of my paver patio and keep them in place with landscape fabric staples. The two sprinklers face away from the patio and into the yard. Dry patio, irrigated backyard.
For my front yard, I run the hose through my rock garden against my house. I bought a hose that blends in well with the rocks and color of my home. This sprinkler is by my front door and waters the front part of my yard. The other sprinkler is located in the middle of my yard and does the lower half and my hell strip. The only issue with this zone is it is slightly more work. I have to hook up the hose the night prior because i can't keep it in the middle of my yard. A minor complaint but I digress.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the set up, it's definitely come a long way. I am still interested in a "real" irrigatIon system one day, but for now this works. I attached some pics of my set up. Enjoy.

Applied blsc /kh at 2 oz. per k for the first time.
Watered in for 15 mins each zone with oscillating sprinkler. Found a big snake around the French drain. This year is corn so he lives for rodent control.

Redid the cutout on right side fence and think it's time I add pavers to all my cutouts as I'm tired of redoing them 3-4 times a year.
Planning on picking up a couple dif pavers this week to see which ones I like before placing an order which if works out that's how I'll be spending my Memorial Day weekend.

Mowed at 3 inches, applied Milo at bag rate in the front, .5 bag rate in the back and side yard. Mowing every 3-4 days now with this terrific weather and the starter fert and Milo, 3rd app, this year so far. Irrigated this am, and hoping for continued pleasant weather.

Mowed to 3" didnt cut much, but were are in the 70's this week. Have a feeling there will be some decent top growth.
Going to water tomorrow morning.

bauer, nice setup! I have something similar.bauer time wrote:Set up my "sprinkler system" today.
Have you thought about maybe using a Rotor Sprinkler On Spike?
This is what I use until I can afford a "real" sprinkler setup and I can daisy chain up to 3 rotors so I don't have to run the timer forever to get the watering I need. And it is quieter.

Edged a new bed, planted 3 peonies, sprayed glyphosae on the new bed and random weeds in the beds. Watered all my flowers.

Planted 6 heirloom tomato plants, 2 red pepper transplants, and 2 basil plants in pots.
Waited until evening to mow the front 10k with the HRX at 2". Got up to 86° today and rain is now forecasted for the next two days. Hope to get a mow in with the RZT on Thurs before the weekend if it's dry.

I did plant them first (oops), but I went really slowly and we had no wind..... I got them on sale for like $1.50 / plant.
Turns out I am getting a peony tree from an estate here - very excited about that

Watered heavily yesterday. Been in a bit of a drought here - crazy dry spring. Forecast calls for 84 degrees today and 80s the remainder of the foreseeable future. Looks like I might need to schedule a few 1/4" cool-off waterings during the day this week. Started the gly kill in our once-wooded back lot in prep for fall seeding.

^ Same here. It has been very dry for spring here. My TTAR held up well though, without water.

I adjusted the sprinkler heads. It can get super windy here so it's a PIA to get the edges of the lawn watered. I'll adjust them and then they'll go on and spray the whole road because the wind direction changed argh!

Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
Applied lesco starter (18-24-12) to the front and side yards @ 4 lbs / K. Started noticing many kbg seedheads. I'm not terribly upset about that because to me it indicates that my lawn has finally woken up from the long hibernation. Bare(ish) spots are filling in and things are starting to look more uniform. I might actually have a decent looking lawn for the graduation pic this weekend!

Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
Lowered mower deck to cut at 2 3/8" from 2 3/4", trying to reduce the number of seedheads which are giving my lawn that putrid whitish hue. I'm fairly certain that they are KBG, based upon the seedheads themselves and blade shape--my new PR is visible among the KBG, seedless and pointy-tipped friendly looking guys.
Parenthetically, this is the largest and most thick outbreak of seedheads I have ever seen. I blame it on either 1) the mild winter/wet, cool spring, 2)the 2 applications of Primo, or 3)Al Gore.
