Mowed main front and side (3.25 in). Previous mow was Saturday (first time at 3.25).
Next up: mow side front and lower back tomorrow night. Hand water hell strips. Buy mower oil, gas, and air filter. Change mower oil. Order extra mower blade. Mow again on the weekend. Spray Velocity. Put down Dimension on the side. Use string trimmer. Get hold of starter fertilizer, Fall fertilizer, urea, and SOP. Buy Epsom salt. Order Tricure. Send in Grubex rebate.

Mowed front/sides @3". Previous mow was at 2.875" 11 days ago and the grass is up there. Glad I got the big mower back today from the shop. Made mowing tall grass a breeze. The front/sides did not get a PGR treatment while the reno (backyard) got a PGR treatment. Backyard still doesn't need a mow (also 11 days ago since last mow).

Watered front at 1" depth this morning before first heat of the season began.
Mowed tonight at 3.5" to clean up shaggy grass.
Watering backyard tomorrow morning at 1" depth. Hot weekend coming. May have to water again at the end of it...

Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
In hindsight, mowing the front/sides to 3.5" would have been better w/ this heat wave we have coming. Oh well.. I'll just have to watch and water it as needed.

Mowed. Caught a neighborhood kid letting his dog use the middle of my lawn as a toilet.

Been trying to look at kelp help ingredients. Are these the correct ones to purchase?

And is the molasses a plus for the sugar? Or could I possibly use a few oz of table sugar too?

Watered hell strips by hand.
Mowed the side front (minus overseed/PGR area and hell strips) and the lower back. 3.25 in.
I'm noticing the Triv is apparently seeding in some places...at lawn height. I guess that must be a reaction to the Velocity. Hopefully the seeds aren't viable.

Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
Mowed the PGR treated backyard @2.5". Last mow was 12 days ago. Growth was very manageable and I could have probably gone a few more days but I was itching to do something.
On this mow, I took off the chute blocker on the eXmark and made a rubber chute deflector out of an old car floor mat (when I bought the mower, it didn't come with one). I looked up a replacement and it was metal. Decided not to buy the metal chute deflector.
Goal of the rubber chute deflector was to limit how far the grass clippings shoot out, but it didn't work too well. It was restricting too much and left a trail of grass clippings. I might have to use a lighter type of rubber or just run it w/o one. I do want one for "safety" though. I wonder if I can retrofit one from current models?
Had to double cut to clean up the trail of clipping and ended up using the blower as well.

For the kelp, you also want a water soluble powder. This is what I bought 5 years ago:1977212 wrote:Been trying to look at kelp help ingredients. Are these the correct ones to purchase?

The liquid gallon would be better for cost. I can do 16 apps for $100 from what I've been figuring out so far. I might also do some baby shampoo but my soil isn't that hard here.TimmyG wrote:For the kelp, you also want a water soluble powder. Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
Do what you will. It's all good. But keep in mind that the original concentrate recipe calls for 4oz of kelp extract (in the form of water soluble powder) in 2 gallons of water. If using an already liquid product, you'll want/need to use a lot more than 4oz of kelp liquid to equal the 4oz kelp powder. All things being equal, the powder should be much cheaper than the liquid. Much cheaper.
Based on the descriptions of the two products, I would guess that the liquid gallon has only 4oz of powder in it. Notably, in the description of the powder: "Dissolve 4 dry ounces in 1 gallon of water to make the concentrate." The liquid description states: "Dilute 1 part kelp liquid to 20 parts water." The powder description states, after instructing on how to make the concentrate: "Dilute 1 part concentrate to 10 parts water." In other words, the kelp liquid may have 8oz equivalent kelp powder, i.e., double the concentration as suggested in the powder description.

Not much today as it's pretty brutal out there. Planted some pots and spring bulbs I ordered previously but just arrived. Trimmed the crap that grows through my fence from neighbors side.
Planning on cutting later once it cools down a bit.

Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
Had a day off. Went to grandma's estate and transplated 2 roses, a peony, something else, and a peony tree (??) to my yard. Bought a new 42" exmark zero turn, cut the grass with it. Looking better already!
