Expecting 0 here. Anything below that and I risk losing rose bushes. Ugh.

Beware the PHYSICAL aspect of too many mulched pine needles. They can take a long time to break down and can mat over and kill/prevent growth in areas.

I live in a pine forest, so I have to monitor the amount of mulched needles and bag every so often.

Pretty lucky where I live we don't get too cold in winter. Aerated, roughed up soil in bare areas, seeded/overseeded with Titanium 2 TTTF, and spread compost over two large lawn islands in front yard! Spring is a comin'! :yahoo:

Beautiful day out, our first over 50 degrees, the snow is melting quick. Got our back yard and beds cleaned up and ready for spring. Raked a few spots that have some minimal snow mold, it's much better this year than last. A few more days and the last of the snow should be off the front, we can get it cleaned up and I can grab some samples for a soil test. Spring is coming.. finally.

After a couple of days with highs around 10-15 over the weekend, yesterday, Tuesday February 16th was in the low 50s...but quite rainy. I believe we got 1/2 to 1 inch of rain. It started as snow yesterday, ice last night, and rain today. And then refreezing now, which means ice sheets on the lawn, esp low input area.

On the positive side, southern ct is now out of moderate drought, finally, and just abnormally dry now! Out neighbors in northern ct are still in moderate drought.

3-4 weeks to go before mowing...

I managed to get out yesterday during lunch to dig a soil sample. It's drying out now and will get shipped out sometime next week. Hoping to get the mower out of storage and tuned up soon.

Last January and February we had 3 days with high reaching over 40, this year? 20 so far and there are still 10 more days left on the calendar. Hopefully I can get something done in April.

Did you dig just a single sample or, say, a dozen+ samples from throughout the area of interest and then mix them together like you should do? It's really not worth testing a single sample. There's too much variability, so what you want is a representative average sample.

Pulled from 10 holes and mixed, probably could have worded that post better.

64 degrees and blue skies in Michigan. Watched the snow melt and left wondering if my dormant seed batch has rotted with all of the thaw/freeze cycles this winter.

Still in the mid 30s here with snow on the ground, but Daffodils are poking up already.

I swear we've just started that initial, almost imperceptible green-up period. The grass looks a tiny bit greener (and longer) if anything, compared to 3 weeks ago before it snowed. I can see it now that it's melting. That normally starts early March. So looks like we're still 2 weeks ahead this year.

Birds are chirping, flies are flying, and neighbor's dog is barking like it hasn't been fed for three days, is spring here?

At least 58 degrees today...and supposedly hitting 60 right about now according to the Weather Channel.

Grass is definitely greening up in spots.

2-3 weeks until mowing...
