So this is happening today, water company is replacing the water main on my street and this is what they will be filling the trench back in with after they remove what's currently there. The driver just destroyed my he11 strip while mixing this up by doing 80 back and forth pushing this all together. He ripped up at least one sprinkler head already.

Soil began warming up and south facing lawn in front starting to slowly green. But snow is expected Wed...
Tsmith - sorry to see that.. makes my snow plow damage look trivial. I feel your pain.

I hate that sort of thing. Are you going to redo the hell-strip with your own soil and grass a few months after they finish? Not as hard it sounds...and probably a good use of grass grown trays to make your own sod. And, you have I-20s, right? So you can just shut off the heads in the hellstrips where the heads or lines of your new system (yeah, I feel your pain) are damaged until you can repair them. Unless, of the course, the lines themselves got cut. No reason to water their crap seed, though.Tsmith wrote:So this is happening today, water company is replacing the water main on my street and this is what they will be filling the trench back in with after they remove what's currently there. Installed a new air filter and spark plug in the zero turn.

Took this picture and am trying to figure out why I have the greenest yard in the neighborhood. Everyone keeps asking me about it because with no snow, in the middle of winter, in Michigan, the yard looks like it did in the fall (almost). I just laugh and tell them I have no idea (it's new?). This really makes me wonder if the yard is predominantly PRG because I can't imagine KBG would stay green like this (even if it has been mild). Curious what the community thinks.

Has your place gotten temperature below 5 F this winter?fusebox7 wrote:Took this picture and am trying to figure out why I have the greenest yard in the neighborhood. Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
We've had a couple weeks where it's gotten as low as 2 deg F (lows) where I am but only for a few days at a time. Really just trying to see if I practice better maintenance than everyone else around here. It can't be that simple right? I figured it was because it's a new lawn (seeded July '15) - as that was the only major difference I could think of. The only other thing might be my use of Milorganite and this is the iron keeping the lawn green. But my last application of that was late August/early Sept. if I remember correctly.

My lawn is newer (seeded Sep) than yours and it's 95% brown. You should feel very proud. =)

Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
I never get 80% green over Winter, even this Winter. I find TTTF goes brown more readily than KBG. TTPR? I'm not really sure to be honest. I'm at like 65% green in some areas now (improved in the past 2 weeks), less in others.fusebox7 wrote:We've had a couple weeks where it's gotten as low as 2 deg F (lows) where I am but only for a few days at a time. We'll see what happens after the foot of snow we're about to get If it's still green after this week, I should be looking to harvest my own lawn in the spring.

Looks like rain all day and heavy at that. Was expecting snow tomorrow but maybe I can mind meld it to go to my buddies in Michigan!

Re: 2016: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
The snow changed to rain, and there has been one inch of liquid precipitation so far.
On another topic, I noticed just how many Zoysia lawns there are in my neighborhood. There have to be one every block or two. I'm surprised so many.
Edit: And another inch of rain now, making 2 inches so far.
Edit 2: Plus another 7/16ths-inch. So 2-and-7/16ths inches so far.

If it's not for the abnormally mild temperature, we could have another close to record-setting snowfall this year.

Got another 1-and-3/8ths-inch of rain by this morning.
So the total is 3-and-11/16ths-inches of rain. Pretty much 3.75 inches.

Got close to 12" of snow yesterday/overnight. Already starting to melt. Going to be a lot of flooding the next few days. Looks like this might be the last "dump" of the year. Temps heading back into 40s and 50s the next few weeks.

Took soil samples in the front, then put down gypsum along the edges. Soil temp in the main front is 41F now.
