hello, do you use Milogranite? I here the iron in there can add color to your grass

Looks like rust. I can't tell for sure, when I zoom in on pics they get fuzzy. Is there yellow/orange pustules on leaf blades?? Has it been really rainy??

That's not a close-up! There's still a thousand blades in that pic. Get in there! And make sure you're in focus and in macro mode.
And not that I support a diagnosis of rust fungus (haven't had it, wouldn't know what it looks like from afar), but if it were rust, the easiest tell is that the rust color would rub off. It's powdery.

Have you done a soil sample?

Now I think you stand a chance of having someone help you diagnose the problem, particularly if it's fungus. That won't be me. I identify weeds, not lawn fungi.

Have not yet done a soil sample. I thought that since this is new sod (6 months old) I wouldn't have to do that yet. But if it would help I'll do it.1977212 wrote:Have you done a soil sample?

And good call on the blade!

Remember you are taking a soil sample and not a sod sample meaning 3-4 inches below where the dirt starts. The sample is checking what is going on below the sod that may be causing your issue. Good luck to you!APDX wrote:Have not yet done a soil sample. I thought that since this is new sod (6 months old) I wouldn't have to do that yet. I have the same yellowing going on in my grass. In southwestern PA it has been cloudy, rainy and cool this spring. I wonder too if this is condition is weather driven. On the last week of April, I did put down a light Milorganite app (half bag rate) and SOP, which soil report says is deficient.

That looks like disease. There are lesions on the blades and yellowing. I can't really tell what it is from the photos (disease identification is difficult and I have never grown Perennial Rye). You might see if you can figure it out from: http://turfdiseaseid.ncsu.edu/

Bernstem beat me to it--that NC State site is a goldmine of information. I am not an expert by any means, but my lawn is experiencing pretty much the same symptoms as yours. I have a Nomix lawn, but probably have more than 50% rye in the mix. I have come up with a diagnosis which seems to fit my mix of cultivars; actually two separate diseases in the different species, but both classified as "Helminthosporium" diseases. See what you come up with, then hopefully we will get a diagnosis from a real expert.
