Growing Tall Grass
I'm having trouble letting my lawn get much taller than 3 inches without laying flat and when it does lay flat I'm getting melting and rot beneath the top layer of grass..
The stems are thin, I notice in areas where my grass is on a border it grows much thicker blades and darker and more upright.
Is my lawn planted too dense?
I have a hand mixed blend of blue tag TTTF cultivars, all very highly rated..
Any one have insights on thickening the stems at all?

Re: Growing Tall Grass
I had that years ago and at the time, I had sprayed a broad leaf weed killer immediately after mowing, rather than letting the blades heal for two days....Not sure if that is your cause, but is looks similar to what occurred on mine...

Re: Growing Tall Grass
Not a ton of rain no but it did rain once this month LOL.
it's mostly where I had bare spots and over seeded and there's no grass to support it and the blades lay super flat on eachother

Re: Growing Tall Grass
What height is your mower set to cut at? I am at 2.5" and cut about every 6 days right now.

Re: Growing Tall Grass
I've been cutting anywhere from 2 to 3 inches, I lower the cut when it starts matting up..
Im trying to cut it at 3 or 4 inches though but so far it's too floppy

I have some of these types of spots myself. Anybody know what's the best way to fix it? I'm not sure if they were from animal pee damage, or fertilizer spill, or some bare spots that did not get to fill in completely yet. What I first noticed was that the grass was laying in those areas when cut at 3 inches or more. I feel that whatever is growing or trying to grow in those holes get covered by the taller grass surrounding it. What's the best way to fix these spots to let/encourage the grass to fill in? I don't know if a rhizome can get in there and fill in the spot.. Should I just put a plug in there?

Re: Growing Tall Grass
If you think it's dog pee or too much N I believe you could use 3oz table sugar per k in a hose end.

Re: Growing Tall Grass
Sorry, I was referring more on how best to let the grass fill in. Previous post edited to clarify further.
