Triclopyr to eliminate rust?
I have a 1-year old KBG lawn (seeded 08/2015) that has struggled with rust most of the summer and, now, heading into Fall. It hasn't seemed to do any damage, but has been consistent even if the spots have changed locations over the course of the year.
Wikipedia mentions that triclopyr controls rust which I have never heard before. Has anyone used it for that with success? Is it less harmful to the soil food web than a chemical fungicide?
I am about to do a second app of Tenacity (@ 2oz/A, first app 2 weeks ago was 4oz/A) and was thinking of mixing in some triclopyr at the label rate. A few spots of clover have shown up - enough that I am undecided between spot-spraying or blanket spraying. If triclopyr helps with rust, that would push me towards mixing it with the Tenacity (which is OK per the label) and doing a blanket spray.
For background, I have been on the preventative biofungicide program, and have put down the following over the course of the season (some of this isn't really part of the program, but I understand may help with fungus issues):
* 200# cracked corn
* 6 gallons of milk (pasteurized)
* 320 oz. of Serenade
* 160 oz. of TKO Phosphites
* 128 oz. of Companion
* 4 oz. of Actinovate
(EDIT: Above was for 10K square feet of lawn.)
Additionally, my N sources so far have been organic (grains, chicken manure, and Milorganite). First app of urea goes down on 9/17 as I have been trying to maximize my use of Milorganite.
Lawn was seeded at ~7.5#/K which I am sure is contributing to the problem. Soil test is here: http://aroundtheyard.com/soil/new-milwa ... 19284.html
Thanks for any comments/suggestions.

Not so fast. There is confusion occurring due to the use of the "common name" for diseases. "Rust" in lawns and "Soybean Rust" are completely different diseases and pathogens.
It's pretty rare to hear that Serenade doesn't take out Rust (the lawn type) - even as a curative. When was the last Serenade app?

Re: Triclopyr to eliminate rust?
Serenade went down on the following dates and oz/M:
5/16/16 6.4
5/28/16 3.2
6/12/16 3.2
6/24/16 3.2
7/10/16 3.2
7/22/16 3.2
8/5/16 3.2
8/13/16 6.4
My source for Serenade was/is Amazon and their price has doubled since I purchased it. So, since mid-August, I have been using milk and Actinovate.

Re: Triclopyr to eliminate rust?
4 weeks - too long without Serenade to prevent/treat Rust. I have a source for Serenade 2.5 gallons for large lawns - PM me if you want that connection. Bayer Natria is also the exact same product, and one or the other should be available locally (even big-box).

If rust is giving you trouble, why not just apply some N? Much cheaper than fungicides, more effective, and quicker.

Thanks Andy. PM sent.
Thanks Billy. I plan to do both. Milorganite has been going down regularly including last weekend at bag rate. I plan on starting urea next weekend.

Re: Triclopyr to eliminate rust?
Since my original post, I have made the following Serenade applications:
The rust was "under control" for the last month but yesterday and today the weather has been cloudy with occasional rain. The rust has flourished so I put down an app today in moderate drizzle.
Should I be considering a chemical fungicide? Propiconazole?
Average first frost is early-to-mid October and, right on schedule, we have our first frost advisory for tomorrow morning (although the 10-day forecast shows warmer-than-normal temps). Does frost kill rust? Am I late enough in the season that, assuming I am willing to live with the ugliness and continue the Serenade apps, I should just ride it out? Curious what others with more experience would recommend.
The clover has also gained some ground... same question... live with it or put down some Triclopyr?
Final urea app of 0.5# N/M was on 10/05 and the grass looks to be slightly stressed compared to a week ago (but maybe that is the weather).
Code: Select all

9/20/16 6.4 3
9/24/16 6.4 4
10/1/16 4.8 7
10/8/16 6.4 7
10/12/16 4.8 4
