I adjusted sprinkler settings to continue easing up after overseeding, removed leaky vacuum breaker, sprayed for ants. Remeasured after the changes we made with mulching around the maple. Wife cleaned out the birdbaths, watered the roses. Now it's pouring rain (though only forecasted for less than 1/4").

More watering seeded areas, and watering of worst section of low-input area (including and adjacent to the areas I planted last Spring) after spraying Hydretain ES Plus II on it. Put down 0.25 to 0.5 inch of water.

Honda mower blades arrived and I found them fairly blunt, have to get them sharpened before I put them on.

Finally had a chance to mow after a 11 day interval. Had to raise HOC to 4" so I didn't violate the 1/3 rule too badly. Grass was 6-8" high. Ouch!

Got a big league striper and installed it on my Exmark. Cutting regularly. Irrigating frequently. Holding off on fertilization until this heat wave breaks this weekend. Then we have 2-3 weeks to average first frost date. I'm hoping it recovers well - this week of 90 degree temps has been brutal.

Cut at 3" for first time since I overseeded. Edged. Put down Urea and watered it in. Ate pizza.

Mowed non-overseeded parts of front; watered. Finally finished watering low-input area. Some lawns are going brown due to the heat (90F) and lack of rain. I have brown sections in the low-input area. Turned off irrigation for the morning so I can cut the overseeded front areas.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Cut front and side overseed areas with the manual reel mower. Front had to be cut twice, because I refused to cut it during the 90-degree heat the past few days. Don't think I broke 1/3-rule, but still had to cut twice, because the clippings were too thick on the first few passes with the mower set low, and I was getting concerned they might choke out the new grass with respect to blocking sunlight. So I raised it up a notch, and lowered it again and made the second pass. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn off one of the sprinklers on the main front last night, so it was a bit wet when I cut. Oh well.
The lower side overseed is totally stunted. For the second time, cutting took off barely anything. Not sure if it's just still in S&P mode, or lacking water (I haven't been able to water it as much as I should in the heat). It's TTTF planted like 3 weeks ago, in partial shade part of the day.
Also watered, including the front hill. 2 days ago, watered all hell-strip areas thoroughly. The two front ones got over another half inch of water again today...should really help with the rooting.

Creeped around with a coat and flashlight in the rain trying to determine if I had any seed wash away. These photos really tell the story - if you look closely, you'll notice these sprouts are barely hanging on... under water! Ended up getting 4" of rain in the last 72 hours. Frantically moved the gutter downspot ahead of the storm to prevent washouts in the front!

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Used the Chapin 20v for the first time to spray Tenacity. Even though it might be "overkill" for my property (just shy of 4K) it was real nice not to stop and pump or refill my 2Gal Husqvarna. Have work to do on my pacing. Also put down some Dylox after seeing grubs when doing final transplanting last night. Adjusted sprinkler timing to give Tenacity a good drying before the Dylox gets watered in.

Watered seed areas, and mowed non-seed parts of main front. Mowed side and about half of low-input area.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Mulched leaves, sprayed BLSC and watered about an inch or so.
Boy lawns are dry and brown cause of lack of rain. No rain in site on 10 day weather forecast. It's bad here, my water bill gonna be a fortune

Paid a visit to a friend's lawn project
I hand watered some grub damaged, drought stressed, and compacted spots. I may core aerate the high traffic spots that are so hard.

Found urea at my local Ace Hardware today, saving me an hour round trip to my other sources. $26 for 50 lbs is about $8 more than usual, but well worth the time savings.

Nice find! There's an Ace in Fishers that has it for less, I think - HoosierDaddy gets it there, maybe Cheesto. Residex, Wanamaker Feed n Seed, the Shelbyville co-op carry it for sure - and of course individual Ace Hardwares (like the one in front of the Shelbyville co-op) carry it depending on their franchisee.Mattw10517 wrote: ↑September 29th, 2017, 9:51 amFound urea at my local Ace Hardware today, saving me an hour round trip to my other sources. $26 for 50 lbs is about $8 more than usual, but well worth the time savings.
I live just outside Wanamaker so wave if you see me on my ZT

Hmm I love right by the Fishers Ace and have never seen it there, but I guess they could be special ordering it. I got it today at the other Ace in Lawrence.HoosierLawnGnome wrote: ↑September 29th, 2017, 10:08 amNice find!
