Spot sprayed poa annua with mesotrione. Will do multiple applications over the next couple of weeks, staying below the one application and yearly application limits.

Got off work early on Friday.
Picked up 3 bags of Milo.
Drop the cut down another 1/2”, laid down the Milo, did some weeding, then turned in the Irrigation to water the Milo in.

Mowed and lowered the deck a notch. Put down 0.5 N, TSP, SOP, on the front and side, and my last bag of 10-10-10 in the back. That's it for this season on the back until the spring and the home stretch to the fall reno.

Yesterday I got some weird looks from the neighbors when I was blowing the leaves up into my lawn. Mulch mowed, trimmed, edged, dropped Milo and waited for the 1” of rain forecast for tonight. Set some more mole traps along what I’m fairly confident is the active tunnel.
Hasn’t started raining yet. Still forecast to start around 10.

"Peak Week" for foliage here - this is the week where the foliage is falling as fast as you can mulch it. Won the battle!

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Mowed side front overseed area at 2.75 in. Despite barriers, someone in the family drove slightly onto the lawn on the main front overseed area, and cracked one of the stakes in half. Fixed that. Did a bit of watering, including side front overseed area with impact sprinkler.
At grandfather's around 5PM: raked the paper mulch on the overseed area to get rid of clumps, then watered. I think I got it just in time before the seed dried out too much, as it had been about 60 hours since it was last watered. There's definitely dew in the AM, and it's a shaded area, and the paper mulch is a lifesaver. Removed the oscillating sprinkler and timer, as grandfather didn't want it watering because he's on a well. The next day or two will be the crucial time, but I think if I wet it down by hand again on Monday, it should be ok. After that, we're getting rain and cooler temps, so it really shouldn't need much supplemental water. But today was in the mid 70s. Also sprayed weeds (mostly Dandelions) in the yard. Will probably have to do a few blanket sprays of Triclopyr soon due to a large amount of Charlie.

TTTF/PRG overseed day 22 - lowered cut height from 4" to 3.5", mulch mowed grass and leaves. With Fall sun lower in the sky and most leaves still on trees, long shadows are being cast on the yard during mid-afternoon. The county said it was okay to remove silt fence since have enough established grass now.
Back yard - mostly filled in, thin areas around permitter of house
Front yard - still needs more filling in
Getting moss around the permitter of the house in thin areas. I thought to put down some type of moss controller, but decided lime would be more beneficial. In April the soil PH tested at 5.4 with recommended lime 100 lbs/K to correct. I've already put down dolomitic lime 40 lbs/K in May. So, today I put down fast acting lime 6 lbs/K. I'll probably need one or more fast acting apps next year before testing the soil again.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Mowed the majority of the main front overseed with the gas-powered mower for the first time! 2.75 inches...which was perfect. Went really slow and made the turns super carefully.
Mowed the front hill down to 3.25 in for the first time this Fall. Also mowed the rest of the side front up to the house, and mulched the leaves, but have since raised back up to 3.75 in. Mowed the non-overseeded parts of the main front, too. Still at 3.75 in for the 1/3 of it that's nearest the street.
Watered, including watering the upper part of the front hill, which was drought stressing again. Also hand-watered edges and hell-strips.
Tomorrow: Lawn mower oil change, more mowing, trimming, and final Milorganite app.

At grandfather's, watered seed. Mowed most of back. String trimmed.
At home: mowed low-input, taking it down to 3.25 in. Put down 3/4 of a 50-lb bag of 6-2-0 Milorganite there, going heavier on dormant patches.
Mowed lower back at 3.25 in. Mowed lower side overseed at 2.75 in with gas mower for first time in order to mulch up some leaves.
Cut rest of main front overseed with Fiskars reel mower on setting 4.
Put down 5-2-0 Milorgantite with 4% iron on front and side. 0.5 lb/K of N on main front overseed area. About the same on side front, including overseed area. And a bit heavier on the side to help it fill in.
Added a bit more TTTF seed in front.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Technically, we got the first frost about a week ago, but it was very light and only on certain surfaces. This is a strange Fall...the leaves started dropping in early August earlier than usual, but at this point, they're further behind than usual...we haven't reached peak color yet.
A couple of days ago, I put the second app of fertilizer into the sod tray...some Scotts starter fertilizer.
Today, we have been getting semi-tropical downpours...something you don't usually see in October in this area. It's 71 degrees, which is lower than the past few days (it was 77 two days ago), but still comfortable and definitely above average by about ten degrees. No heat or AC needed.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Had to fire an employee today. He cried. Broke my heart but was necessary. So I went home early and buried myself in yardwork.
Trimmed. Picked up all the big sticks that have been falling down with all this wind. Picked up all the dog poop. Stepped on some tunnels from the damned moles. Set new traps on what I think (hope) is active tunnel. There’s like three new stupid tunnels. Mulch mowed. Double passes East/West and North/South. Added fresh cedar chips to all the garden beds. Refilled bird feeders. Cleaned the patio off. Edged. Cleaned the trimmer and edger.
Inside for soup and hummus now.

Yesterday, changed oil in mower. 10W30 for cool weather.
Mowed main front just now, before dark...overseed portion at 2.75 in, and other parts at 3.75 in. Still haven't been able to get the height down on one last area, yet.
Front overseed areas look amazing. Nice and dark green. Overall, the grow-in was definitely quicker in the areas that were aerated.
Tomorrow: more mowing.
