2nd overseed attempt, day 8. I just noticed germination. I put down Scott's seed with the WaterSmart PLUS coating (marketing?) to help the seed retain water since I was only hand watering the lawn using well water. The black dots on the soil are undigested Milorganite I put down Sep 16. Just need that forecasted rain for this week to come true to help the babies grow.

Put down 0.5 lb/K of N from 29-0-4 (with 4% slow release) on lower back.
Sprayed Hydretain on some problem areas in low-input area.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
That was the "Expert Gardener" brand...it was on special at Walmart in September. I was trying to figure out who makes it.
The fertilizer looks like it could be Lebanon product, but I'm not sure. It's pretty good. The only downside is it has MOP instead of SOP. But you're not supposed to even be using Potassium this time of year, and it's a very small amount, so it's moot.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
The rain total from yesterday was about 0.62-0.65 inches.
Today, put down 0.25 lb/K of N from the 29-0-4 Expert Gardener fertilizer after cutting the main front overseed. I had to raise the Fiskars mower up to the 4th notch because the grass was longer.
Mowed front hill at 3.75 in, and other part of side front at 3.25 in. Mowed front part of main front at 3.75 in.
Watered seeded areas.

Spread Milorganite @ bag rate on back yard. My four-year-old daughter came out and asked to find a four leaf clover...luckily I was able to find one at the back edge of our lot

Green, we must live literally in the same town. Because I got exactly 0.62" on the rain gauge the last two days as well! Funny.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
And I'm guessing your last rain before that was 0.02 inches the week before, during that span of about a month with no rain?
Yeah, pretty much. But I don't publicize my location. That said, I believe I saw you once posted roughly where you live, and I do drive through that area sometimes. Lots of horse farms within a few miles from you, right? Beautiful rural, wooded area...
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today, mowed lower back and patch on main front near door at 3.25 in.
Cut both front overseed areas using setting 4 on the Fiskars. Yes, I cut the main front again today (in a different direction, but on the same setting) after having cut it yesterday, too. And I'll probably cut it again tomorrow! Also cut the lower back overseed area, on setting 3 (approx. 2 inches).
Watered some overseed areas, but not the main front or side front.
Nitrogen: Put down 0.5 lb/K of N from 29-0-4 with 7% slow release on side front overseed area. Put down 0.33 lb/K of N from the same fertilizer on the non-overseeded parts of the side front, as well as main front non-overseeded areas. Put down 0.33 lb/K of N from 6-2-0 Milorganite on the non-overseeded part of the side front that's behind the overseed area. Put down 0.5 lb/K of N from 6-2-0 Milo on the non-overseeded main front areas.

Cut main front overseed area again, for the third day in a row, lowering it back to the 3rd notch this time. Put down about 0.25 lb/K of N on that area from the same fertilizer as last time. Put down about 0.5 lb/K on the lower back overseed area, but tried to skip the areas that don't have much grass.
Watered, including watering entire main front and side front to get the urea into the soil, since there was only about 1/8th-inch of rain last night. So, watered each area for about a half hour, to get close to 1/4-inch.
String-trimmed and hand-trimmed some borders. Mowed front hill at 3.75 in, but didn't take much off. Next mow, I'll lower it. Mowed upper back at 3.25 in and bagged due to the rust (which is improving). Mowed low-input area, mostly at 3.75 in. Lots of bare spots out there...I might do some patch seeding this weekend.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I managed to leave the Orbit in Auto mode on the back and the sprinklers watered the backyard this morning. Not normally terrible but with all the rain earlier this week and more in the next two days I felt reaaaaal dumb. Not knowing what else to do I used the blower and walked the yard then applied some Serenade at full strength.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I'm trying to find a deal on a triplex or steiner tractor. Been talking to our local JD guy, who has several available - just want to find one in the budget range!
He recommends a 2653 rather than a 2500, mostly because the HOC is in the range of where KBG likes to be mowed more (.75" - 1 1/2") - a rough mower - and the reels are heavier meaning they'll require less maintenance.
------
I dropped my HOC to 2" last night.

Watered, cut side front overseed 2x on the diagonals against the hill with the Fiskars! Been only using the reel mower so far...can't wait to use the real mower next time!
Sprayed 2nd app of Propiconazole on upper back, everything identical to the first app last week. Can't wait to see the end of this rust disease! But unfortunately, I'm still seeing hints of it on other parts of the yard, too. And the grass is definitely not under-fertilized!
