I did some fun things today. Put out Halts a little early, wanted to get that behind me up here. I also put together my first grass growing tray, I set it outside a few minutes ago. It's going to rain many days of this week and not freezing, so hopefully that will get things going. Grass here hasn't woken up yet!

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I spot sprayed my backyard for some dandelions, henbit, oxalis, and bit of clover. Luckily the front yard is nearly weed free and looking quite nice. My neighbor was putting down some pre-M today and asked me what kind of seed I used because my lawn looks so nice. That was an interesting conversation. I'm working on deciding if I'll do a full renovation in the backyard in the fall or just a serious over-seeding project.

Mowed yesterday. Moved the mower to the front and the snow blotter to the back. That probably means we'll get another big snow. If I don't use it again, I'll start it up and let it run to burn off the gas so I can start it next year.

welcome to the 20v club.Tsmith wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2017, 4:10 pmLittle late to the party but I finally got to use my Chapin 20v sprayer and it's just as good as others have said.
Hit the Annua patches and the areas where the township put soil after replacing curb and sidewalk last year as I have some other grassy weed growing there
Lawn is looking good otherwise
What are you hitting the Annua patches with?

Spent the weekend trying to come up with a way to dominate my neighbors. Both of them also ordered Fescue Sod with me back in 2016. They both use lawn treatment companies, and their yards are both fairly close to mine in appearance.
Thinking about starting to apply some chelated iron to maybe shade my grass just a tad darker than theirs. Really not sure what else I can do right now.

Stared at it for about 3 minutes then muttered to myself "Crap, I almost have to mow already and its only April 2nd!"

Yesterday, Clean-up mow on rest of back (between shed and house) and part of low-input area (almost pointless...not much came off there). 2.25 inches.
Today, worked more on the brick border of the front flower bed. Ended up edging an adjacent area by hand with a spade and laying the sod onto the gap created from the decreased bed area. Also re-raked part of upper back lawn that got matted again due to the recent snow last month.

Looked at the very last remaining snow in the yard - it will not make it past the rain that is coming.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Spring finally feels like it's here and what a great feeling! Yesterday, gathered soil samples and calibrated the new Chapin 20v using the 1/128 method and a teejet fan tip (w/ stock wand setup) to get ready for pre-m.
Today, shipped my sample then applied prem with the Chapin. It worked flawlessly! Took 2.5 fill ups for entire lawn coverage and she sprayed great, so much better compared to the 2-gal hand can. Expecting the first mow will be within a week or so, surely before Easter. 7 day forecast showing temps in low 50s and 1-2” inches of rain expected over the next few days.
Next up, tune up mower (or buy new??), interpret soil results and replenish SOP, urea, lime, and micros as needed. And of course, still waiting for the milo sale annoucement! Glad to be back again for a new season of fun ATY.

I have a few very small areas with what appears to be quackgrass. I pulled some of it with difficulty today for about 30 minutes.
I think I might use glyphosphate the 2 areas probably two separate times a few weeks apart, and then put down some field conditioner so that I can seed over top of my pre-M.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I took soil samples this past weekend and just packed them up and will send them off to Logan in the morning. I bought a tubular soil sample tool at SiteOne last year and actually found it quite tough to get to four inches. Just about at that mark it seems the soil turns into a highly compact sandy yellow/reddish mixture. I've been in this home for over 20 years, and always thought the contractor had put some crap fill in the yard - and that I was just hitting stones when putting in lawn spikes for christmas decorations, etc. But this seems worse. We'll see what the test shows, but I don't have a good feeling about this

Raked up the lawn, again... neighbor has a tree that seems to lose a million small branches every week.
Put down more mulch, and put down peat moss on the front parking strip. I've never used peat moss before, so I figured I'd test it on a area that I don't care about and gets abused.

Got home from work in time for a cut and bag before the rain the next couple days. My lawn is in full growth mode already which unfortunately includes a boatload of Annua

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Did a bit of grass transplanting and some work with a garden fork to loosen soil in the hell strip and front.
Still didn't get to put pre-M down yet. Looks like when I finally do it, there will be no rain in the forecast for a week after. I hate to have to use sprinklers and waste time, effort, and water to get it watered in. Hopefully some more rain in the next week and a half after tomorrow...

Lots of green up happening this week! I'd say we're at least 75% out of dormancy. Back (tttf) is probably closer to 80-85%. Mowing by Easter for sure.
In other news, planted an apple tree and a nectarine tree and picked up a few sticks.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I fertilized the blueberry bushes. The grass is starting to really wake up. The path I made in the snow is REALLY green right now, probably because I tried using fertilizer as ice melt. (not a lot, but I saw someone say it worked so I wanted to see - long story short, not worth it and may be illegal in some areas lol)
