Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Walked the yard this weekend. The grass is starting to green up under the winter brown layer. Need to do general raking, clean up, and trim some more trees. Starting to plan phase 2 of the reno and will be putting up a fence in the backyard this spring. Some small plants are starting to poke up with the early warm weather so I ordered Demension to put down next weekend. Not sure if I missed any window here in St. Louis.

Yeah, it's just beginning in some places in the northeast. I noticed a few isolated bits too (where the snow has melted). Daffodils are just starting to poke up through the soil.

Raked up all the twigs/sticks that have fallen over the winter. Prepped for my dormant seeding I'll do this week right before the temperatures drop again.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I threw some down a week ago. No germination yet for me, and if it does this week may not make it through next week.
I'd toss some out next week when the temps dive a bit.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
yes I did...had a lot of late leaves fall after I put everything away for the winter and after blowing out the beds it was either fire up the mower or get the rake out...was an easy decisionericgautier wrote: ↑February 22nd, 2017, 12:08 pmdid you really? that is awesome. haha. suppose to be 70s saturday.
I still get a lot of sticker balls from a sweet gum tree in woods so wanted to bag those up as well
I have Tulips popping up all over the place

If you winterized, you don't need synthetic N until late May. If you didn't, you still don't need much this spring.piscean wrote: ↑February 22nd, 2017, 1:25 pmThank you HLG. I'd recommend reading up on Nitrogen fertilization programs for KBG around the forum. Most needs applied in the fall.
ETA: I wasn't very clear. NO, don't apply urea right now. The turf is still dormant. Don't force grass to wake up, and don't force feed it a high dose of urea right away once it does.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
With this VERY unusual warm weather, I did a basic clean-up of my lawn. Picked up any leaves that blew in, tree branches, etc...
Received my new soil sampler, which I'll be using in the next few weeks, and finalized plans to have irrigation installed in the next month or so.

Trimmed side front driveway edge with hand shears. Looked through data from last year. 3 lbs/K of 0.15% Dimension applied in mid April lasted until early August--15 to 16 weeks. I think I'll be going just a bit heavier this year...probably 3.5-4 lbs/K depending on when it gets applied. I think 0.75 lb per month is a good estimate for my needs.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Raked up the lawn a bit today. Still have a bit of snow in the shaded areas but at least I got a little jump on cleanup and was able to fluff up the areas that got matted down from the last couple snows we had. Also had a little bit of mold to clear away. Went to home depot to get some Dimension but they said they won't have any until tomorrow (even though online it said my store had 48 bags). Guess that's on my list of things to do after work. With the way things are going I'll probably be needing to drop it within the next 2 to 3 weeks.

68 degrees today. Raked the front hill and hell strips since it had dried out finally.
Soil temps were 48 on the side front and hell strips, and 46 in the main front.
Noticed a little bit of snow mold in spots...nothing too bad.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Thinking I might have to give the lawn a good rake tomorrow. Its going to rain tomorrow night but then we have more warm temperatures next week. Top growth has definitely started in parts of the turf that get sunlight.

Trimmed the bushes, raked some leaves and twigs, and applied Prodiamine.
A week or two earlier than I originally planned, but with rain in the near forecast, my upcoming schedule, and the fact that I have already spotted some P annua/chickweed it's better to play it safe.

Blew leaves out of the edges of garden beds etc. Mulch mowed them in. Felt good to push that thing around, even if it was only 2 minutes of mow time!

Cleaned up some fallen tree debris from around the yard.
Finished pruning the roses, hydrangeas and apple trees.
Started boiling the maple sap collected the week before last before this warm spell showed up.

First mowing!
Finished raking the side front up to where my snow stick is. And then mowed the side front/front hill up to that area at 2.25 inches! And hell strips at 2.75 inches! Got in about 10 minutes of mowing...while it rained! Feels good to take that dead stuff off.
