The weather forecast for the next 10 days calls for warm and muggy conditions with occasional rain showers so I got off my butt and applied the Phosphite that I had been renigging on getting down.

I put down emergency treatment of Fame (Fluoxastrobin) and went ahead and did my grub control (imidacloprid). I think I caught the brown patch early enough to prevent widespread damage. Watering it in right now.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Changed mower air filter. Mower wouldn't run well after that despite the change. Bought a spark plug and changed that. Some improvement. Still not running/cutting optimally, but at least running/cutting.
Mowed lower back/lower side 2x. Mowed part of low-input. Cut thinnest area at 2.75 in again. Everything else: 3.25 in.
Sprayed Triv on main front.
Sprayed Bt on hickory for 2nd time.

Mowed at 3"
Sprayed Serenade at 2 oz / 1000 sf
Sprayed raw milk at 8 oz / 1000 sf
The cracked corn that I spread at 15 lbs / 1000 sf on 13 May sprouted EVERYWHERE about 2 weeks ago. I've read that the corn won't survive mowings, but I've mowed at least 5 times since it sprouted and it hasn't died. Trying to remain patient but thinking about a post-m to get rid of the corn.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Irrigated another .5 inches last night for a total of 1 inch for the last two days. Been cycling irrigation in two parts each night and letting it soak in for a few hours before starting second cycle given my history of poor drainage. So far I don't know if it's from my bimonthly use of blsc/kh or cycled irrigation but I haven't seen any water pooling anywhere and soil doesn't appear saturated. I hope two consecutive .5 inch irrigations is considered deep and infrequent? Will not irrigate again until I see drought stress or soil cracking. Hope to go at least a week before irrigating again. Hell strips needing extra water especially closer to the road as irrigation coverage isn't as uniform near street so have been hand watering those areas.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Well I walked through my once very green and dense turf. The brown patch came on so quick! No symptoms to problems all over in just a few days. I walk the lawn a lot so it's not like it was apparent before.
I'm going to have to either alter some cultural practices or consider pro-active fungicide applications going forward. I've been slowing going away from chem applications so this is a step in the wrong direction on that front.

The annual Chipmunk game has kicked off!
In this corner... RP armed only with a cage and seed. In the other corner... Alvin and all the chipmunks!
Also irrigated this morning. Temps hitting the upper 90s for the next 4+ days.

Cut upper back, upper side, and rest of low of low-input area (which I had to double cut because of poor mower performance).
Continued trouble-shooting mower.

Sprayed natria (serenade) on the lawn. Trying to see if it will help with the fungus issues I had the last few years.

Dropped Milorganite at bag rate for front and side strip. Also dropped Scotts Everydrop, since I had it left over from last season. Probably will move to the baby shampoo approach for my area of problem clay soil. Increased irrigation time by ~ 25% but am still not getting the color I want. Waiting for delivery of soil test to see if there's something else going on.

Hand watered hell strips again. Received my sprinkler calibaration cups from Amazon. Calibrated one of my front zones by running for ten minutes. Glad I purchased them. Also laid down terro ant killer granules on ant mounds in my front landscape bed and watered it in. Bye bye ants.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Hey KBG, how much water do you get in 10 minutes per zone?
Continued battling the chipmunks today. They counter-attacked... one of the little suckers was climbing all over my back screen door. Obviously gathering intel to take back to the leaders.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
So I just calibrated zone 1 which is in my small front yard which only has rainbird popup spray type heads as opposed to the rotary type heads I have in my back yard. I got about .44 inches of water on the popup sprays after 10 minutes. Will have to calibrate the rotary zones in the back later but those I believe give .25 inches in 17-20 minutes.Riverpilot wrote: ↑June 9th, 2017, 5:45 pmHey KBG, how much water do you get in 10 minutes per zone?

Put down 50 lbs of Sustane 4-6-4 on low-input area.
Blew sidewalks and driveway. Still have to pick up the debris.
Continued troubleshooting mower. Was able to cut closest half of main front near house at 3.25 in going extremely slowly, and side front from front hill to stepping stones at 3.75 inches. Hoping to do more tomorrow.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Sat and enjoyed it with my wife today (which is very unusual between work and kids). I was surprised she didn't mention the scent of Vitamin M I dropped at bag rate yesterday after a cut at 3.125" (front); 2.625 (back). I guess the stiff breeze masked it, but I could smell it. The local feral cats observed us from the neighbor's yard instead of trapsing through our yard as usual.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Watered early this morning. Main front/upper side zones and side front zone (1,2, and 5). 1 hour each, all at once. Roughly 1/2-inch of water.
Continued trouble-shooting mower.
Mowed rest of main front, as well as side front again...at 3.25 inches. (Hell strips at 3.75 in and hand-trimmed at edges.) Accidently scalped an area near the curb due to a piece of construction equipment parked in the street. String-trimmed some areas as well. We'll see how the lawn handles the coming heat wave at this height...
Blew, swept, and picked up about 20 lbs of debris from the driveway. A combination of sand, clippings, pollen things from trees, sticks, and leaf chewings that the gypsy moth caterpillars have been dropping.
